Hi,
its me again with some more question on the CGM? Do you calibrate it before breakfast, lunch, & dinner, before bed, or do you space it out every 6 hours. And also if there is a high you also calibrate it but not when there are up or down arrows? Please give me an idea of how you do this. I think im getting the hang of it but any suggestions would be great.

We calibrate about 2 times a day, 3 times on the day that you start it, it needs that extra calibration.. you don't want to calibrate before meals, or within 15minutes of givine any insulin.. we try to calibrate first thing in the morning ~5am when my dh gets up for work, and at night.. we try and avoid any highs, and do it when she's been steady.. if we know a calibration is going to be coming up and we see that she's steady, we will calibrate early so that it will be a good calibration.. you don't want to calibrate to often because you'll get more chances for a bad calibration.. it takes three good cals to take out one bad cal.. we also try not to do it when she's high (even if she is steady) or too low.. :)

T has a minilink and we were told only to calibrate up to 3 times per day, 2 would be best at least 12 hours apart and when BGs are steady (easier said than done with an active almot 3 yr old!).

The times that work best for us are: right when T wakes up, right after nap time and before bed time snack. If her BGs are wacky, we'll wait longer.

Hope this information helps!!

After initial start up calibration, we calibrate twice a day. I try to time those calibrations
for before breakfast and bedtime.

thanks everyone! Now do you also only do up to 4 fingersticks per day even when the BG is high and just not calibrate them in the pump?

We use the MM CGM and usually calibrate 3-4 times a day. The CGM is most accurate in the range where you calibrate it. So we try to calibrate it mostly in the normal range, but to make it more accurate even when he is high sometimes we calibrate with higher (200) numbers as well if there are no arrows. I used to think that this would mess up in-range performance, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Depending on the circumstances, we might measure him a few more times without calibrating with those numbers. However, during the first day or when it is not really accurate we might measure him about 10 times a day.

We calibrate at 11:30 pm and 11:30 am, both are stable times for Hailey. We do finger pokes for eating and to verify lows but do not use those numbers to calibrate.
