We have a new member that posted her intro in another thread that might get missed, so I wanted to link it here!

Hi Denise,

Your story is similar to ours. My husband was out of town for the weekend when Alex was dx. Fortunately our younger son was able to stay with friends and family while I stayed with Alex. Alex was 15 at the time of dx. He's 17 now and doing great. These first few weeks will be very stressful but you'll get the hang of everything from injections and testing to explaining things like the need for syringes to the insurance people! I'm sorry Kathleen has diabetes but you've found a great resource here with this board.

Welcome Denise, sorry you had to join us. You'll get a lot of great info and meet some really nice people here.

I'm a originally a "Nutmeger" born and raised in Milford. Now living in NH, but I get back frequently.

We are really bumming this week as UCONN was bumped out of the first round of the tourney:(

Welcome Denise.

You shouldn't have too much trouble with tricare everyone gets on the same page. We've been happy and have gotten coverage for everything we need without question. :)

I sure hope so. Today I was told by the person at the tricare office that tricare probably didn't give us syringes because we were already using the hospital's supplies. What?

Anyway, I find out that the pharmacy on base carries NOTHING we need except the Novolog. I may switch meters form the OneTouch2 the hospital gave us to something the pharmacy carries...who knows right now...I am too tired to worry about that now.

DH returns home tomorrow and I can fill him in and take a nap. :D

If you decide to switch meters, don't buy one. Try calling the company of the meters your pharmacy carries to see if they will send you a free one. They make their money on the strips so often they will give away the meters. If they won't, definitely get the insurance company to pay for one. But if you are happy enough with the One Touch, I would think the pharmacy could start carrying those strips for you.

Hi Denise,
Welcome to the boards! Sorry you had to find us. So glad you were persistant in getting diagnosed. When the dust settles look back at old threads and see how your vigilance paid off. So many families were blown off by healthcare professionals and their children were very, very sick at diagnosis.

Btw my husband was out of town for a mandatory meeting when my daughter was dx'd. He couldn't leave. (which I still think is b.s.) It was so hard to be at the hospital without him. I know how you feel on that one.
Judy:)

Give the pharmacy a list of what you need and tell them to order it. Don't allow them to tell you they don't carry it. :)
