Help for diabetic children

A THREE-DAY camp for diabetic children will be held at Al Jazayer Beach, Zallaq, from today.
The Bahrain Diabetic Society's annual Sherooq camp, now in its ninth year, will give 40 children from Bahrain and neighbouring countries the chance to learn about their condition and how to deal with it.
The boys and girls, aged seven to 18, have all been recently diagnosed with the disease.
"The event aims to raise awareness about diabetes as well as teach children to take care of themselves and make friends," said Sherooq camp committee chairwoman Dr Mariam Mullaharmas.
The camp volunteers include two paediatricians, four family physicians, 20 nurses and seven 16 to 18-year-old diabetics who are experienced in coping with their condition.
Over the course of the camp, the 31 children from Bahrain, four from Qatar, five from the UAE and two from Kuwait will participate in a variety of activities, ranging from sports to arts and crafts.
At the end of the camp, each child will receive a gift and a certificate with special awards going to those who keep their condition under control.
