I'm so sorry to hear your news. I was wondering, if you don't mind, what were her symptoms? My Kendall is 7 and is having lot of stomach aches and "bathroom" problems. She was diagnosed almost 4 months ago. Good luck, and I'll say a prayer for your family.

She didnt really have "obvious" symptoms. every once in a while she would say she didnt want to eat pizza because it made her belly hurt, but other times she would eat it no problem. She wold say her belly hurt, but it never stopped her from doing things.
We just had her routine bloodwork done, and it came back really high.

Sorry to hear that. At least you know NOW instead of 4-5-10 years down the road. Good luck in your GF Journey!
Regardless of presentation of symptoms, it's a good idea to test any person with Type 1 diabetes for CD.

When an individual presents with type 1A diabetes it indicates that they and their relatives have an increased risk of having or developing a series of autoimmune disorders(11). Celiac disease, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Addison’s disease and pernicious anemia are some of the most prominent associated diseases. For example approximately 1/20 patients with type 1 diabetes have celiac disease(13;14). Most of these patients are asymptomatic and the disorder is only discovered if anti-transglutaminase autoantibodies are measured and individuals with positive antibodies biopsied. In that the therapy for celiac disease, namely gluten avoidance, is highly effective, at the Barbara Davis Center we routinely screen all type 1 diabetic patients. We also screen for thyroid disease and for Addison’s disease (21-hydroxylase autoantibodies)(15).

I hope the transition goes well for you. We are gluten free (at least I am hoping) for just over a week now. Things have gone better than I would have thought. Josie has had a few meltdowns over the can't have that discussions. I am just trying to let her go and be mad when she needs to. I have broken out the foodsaver and started making up batches of waffles and pancakes to cover breakfasts during the week. She seems to not complain about those items. Bummer how many carbs they have. The irony of her food choices and the diabetes is not lost on me. Sometimes I feel like I'm chasing my tail between these two conditions. I suppose it's just part of being a mom. Though with the early stages of puberty beginning and there are times I want to hide in a dark room with the door locked. But the kids would find me so makes no sense to stay in that place for long. I think we are on a journey of trial and error, keep me posted on how many forks (no pun intended) you come across. Best of everything gluten free!
