Hello,
I was told by our Nose, Throat, and Ear doctor that our DS needed his tonsils removed.
I was wondering how many of you have had your children with tonsils removed after they were diagnosed or any type of surgeries.
What needs to be looked after, what questions, concerns, what would you do differently.
The doctor said he wanted to make sure that we got our endo's approval. They no longer have pediatric endocronologist in the area. He knew that. He also knew that you had either go to Iowa city or Peoria.
He wanted to make sure everyone was on board so to make sure they would have all the different numbers and such.
Thanks in advance for all your input.

Our dd was just put under last week. It was for a very short procedure (endoscopy).
We talked to our endo the day before, got instructions on how wto handle things, etc. The dr doing the procedure had us be there 4 1/2 hrs early, incase Jess went low, they could do a d5 drip.
She did drop, stayed low, and things got ugly in the recovery.
My best advice is to take our own meter and plenty of test strips. Make sure you take gel or soemthing else (that isnt red) to use if you need to. Trust your insticnts. You know your kid best so do what feels right

Adyson has had surgery 3 times since diagnosis. They were very short. We consulted with the endo and the hospital let her have the first time available in the morning. She did great. I hope everything goes well with your son.

Davis had his tonsils removed on Valentine's Day..He kept his pump on for the surgery and they checked his sugar several times during the surgery..The dr made it clear to the nurses that we would be in charge of his d care while he was there ( we stayed the night just to make sure but he was fine)..We had to check him every 2 hours just because he wasn't eating but he never got very low..He finally starting eating around 6 that night and never really had a problem eating after that..I did however give him his pain medicine every 4 hours in the beginning because I didn't want him to get to the point that he didn't feel like eating..
Also see if you can be the first case of the morning..We were and I think that helped too, since he couldn't eat breakfast..Let us know how things go..

We just had charlize tonsils out last summer, i will try to find my post on it so you can read how it all went.. over all good... We got endo orders of what they wanted ranges to be, he surgon checked bs when we arrived, right b4 surgery, during and after... pump stayed on.... doc told us that nurses tell you absolutly no milk products for 24 hours, doc told us not to worry about that.. if i need her to have a milk shake, ice cream or milk in general to help w/ bs after to do so.. BEst advice i can give is go to walmart or somewhere else and get a ice shaving machine, they sell them for liek $15... i made home made slusies and such and it was the only thing she would take.. so i loaded them with either loaded or unloaded ( carb wise)/... it helped keep her hydrated too...
all went great keep us posted
