My daughter got her first Guinea pig this weekend. She has been begging me for one. We have 2 dogs, 1 cat, two turtles fish and now 2 guinea pigs (1 for her and one for her brother) Its a zoo at my house now!!!

She was holding her new guinea pig her arms and goes wouldn't it be cool if this guinea pig could tell when Im low like those dogs can do with diabetic kids. Thinking she could take this thing to school with her on a leash. She is 9 years old.
I laughed and said yeah it would and NO YOU are not sleeping with this thing in your bed or taking it to school. the cat will eat it.......

The things kids say!!

What a cutie!

(But seriously, I want a blood sugar sniffing guinea pig too.)

I've thought the same thing! Only more about rats. They don't live long enough, that's the most obvious problem- you'd have to keep training them over and over.

Be Careful if your daughter is pumping. Our guinea pig chewed right through Rachels pump tubing one afternoon.

Please let us know if your daughter has any luck training the guinea pigs to detect lows.

Our daughters' 2 guinea pigs (Isabelle and Cynthia) are very likeable, but have so far shown no sign of any talents in this regard..

I want a low sniffing cat. LOL
I think those dogs are cool, and was ready to start looking into one, when my brother told me that my dog would UNTRAIN a trained service dog.
I figure that is probably true.

My sister and I have talked about a service dog that could do that but, we thought it was just a dream. Where could I look into something like that?

Her cat Sassy would come tell me if she were like...in major trouble but other than that Sassy lives up to her name!
