Hi my name's Kel,
Some of you may already know me because my mum - Kelsmum - has been posting on this site, mainly in the Parents section, for about a week or 2 now...
I don't really know what to say accept maybe that I'm new and I'd like to get to know alot of people on here.

I was diagnosed with Type 1 just recently so I'm all pretty new to all this. I'm on the pens, which I must say, compared to the syringes, is a breeze. I've started school again which is a relief, I can see all my mates again!
Umm... if you would like to know my story and my mum's story then you can go check out Kelsmum's posts in Parents Of Children With Type 1.

Hope to get to know you all:)
Bye for now...

Hi Kel,

Welcome to the board! I know there's not really i whole lot of teens on here, but there's a lot of us on diabetesteentalk.com check it out.

Yes, the pens are a lot better than syringes. I'm on the pump, and I would definitly recommend it.

How old are you?

Hi Kel, I'm so glad you're here! My name is Tami and I talk to your mom some times. I am so sorry that you have this disease but am thrilled that you are here to talk with us. My son is eleven going on twelve soon and was diagnosed about eleven months ago.

I know this is tough at first but you will get used to the new normal and all will be well. The family will all adjust. It just takes a little time. So hang tough. Talk to your mom or someone close to you about all of it. Being open is the best thing. Everyone walks on pins and needles for a while but pretty soon it will be old hat. You may be afraid to express yourself but don't be.

The pens are much better than the shots as far as ease and convenience. The pump is even better. You can sleep in, you can eat what you want when you want so teenage life isn't so hard. It all seems a little bothersome when you look at all of it. It's not. It's easy once you get the hang of it all. Your highs and lows are much more manageable. You are not stuck with the time released insulin.

So if you're low you can disconnect. If your active you can disconnect for a while or decrease the amount of insulin you get so that you don't get low. For highs the pump calculates what you will need and you just push a button to deliver. It's awesome. Because you have better control you will feel a whole lot better. I'm sure you already do compared to when you were diagnosed.

Finding the possitive living with such a negetive can be difficult but it's possible. I am so excited with the advances they have made and am looking forward to a cure for everyone with type 1. Until then, thank God every day for those who are working so hard to keep you safe and healthy.

Just remember you are not alone. God loves you Kel. Use this board to get yourself through the tough times and gain a better understanding of this disease. Trust us when we tell you it will get better in time.

Good Luck! God Bless! Keep posting! Tami
