Well you can't always eat watever you want when you want it it just depends if your blood sugar is good. If your blood sugar is good than you can eat whatever you want when you want it if you count your carbs and measure it and remember to take insulin for it.

I eat whatever I want on the pump, if my numbers are ok. If you really don't like your doctor, maybe you should look for a new one, one that will put you on a pump. Theres no reason why you can't since you've been diagnosed 4 years now!

I believe doing 4 shots a day, at least for a little while, is fairly typical before going on the pump. I did it for a few months, and it seems like most people did. Your blood sugar would probably be better.

Raya:

No one, even non-diabetics, should eat whatever they want when they want. A good Life, including eating habits, are based upon good choices. My daughter likes the pump because it works more like a "real" pancreas, always pushing low levels of insulin until meals or snacks when she can count carbs and push more insulin (just like a pancreas). My daughter does not have to get shots 4 or 5 times a day and her glucose levels are in better ranges because the pump works more like the pancreas.

People who suggest a correlation between pumps and eating practices confuse me!

Personally, I think that doctor in a complete idiot! If I could help one of my patients have better BG by giving them a pump, I would. You should DEFINITELY try to get a pump!

you should really eat healthy. it is better to get into the habit now to prevent complications in the future. a lot of different foods will afftect your blood sugar. if it continues to be so high all the time, you can go blind, lose limbs, and have other types of problems. a pump is very helpful to keep your sugar level undercontrol but you must have control over your diabetes. i would reccommend seeing an endocrinologist that speciallizes in diabetes. 4 times a day of injections is not unusual. it is better to be safe than sorry. good luck! omnipod is a tubeless pump. check it out.

It's the best way to manage diabetes short of a pump, and often a precursor to a pump. It mimics a pump, and a healthy pancreas.

i take 4 shots a day but i don't think i am ready for the pump yet.that doctor does sound stupid.since you have had diabetes longer than me you should probably get the pump though.

The doctor told me that I HAVE to go on MDI (4 or more shots a day) before I go on the pump. Don't think of it as "you heve to take 4 shots a day" rather "you are going to take 4 shots a day to prove that you are ready and capable to go on the pump"

Good Luck!

well i'm from canada so i really dont understand what 300 or 280 is . Well once i went to a camp in boston its called Clara Barton and there i needed to have a usa machine then i had a paper to convert it and then i got used to it . But now i dont .

Lets just say that 280 and 300 are not the best numbers. Most poples range is like 90-150.

Your so lucky you get 3 shots a day! I get 5-7:( And you do usually get to eat when ever you want I dont know why your doctor said that.. Unless your blood sugar is really hi that almost never happens xoxo Amy =)

I average 6-7 shots per day and I like it. I would only pump if it could give insulin automatically in response to my CGMS saying I was high in the night, so I wouldn't have to wake up and do middle of the night shots. But until then, no way Jose!

 I hate going to the doctor! I went because of some symptoms... I think my mother knew they were symptoms, but not what they were for... The major symptoms were extreme thirst and hunger. My mother knows that when I'm growing I get a big appetite then it kind of stops but when it didn't stop, along with the extreme thirst that made her worried... I was kind of a little of these:
:mad::(:eek:
When I was done at the doctor's I was more of:
I had to stay there for a few days and my first blood sugar number at the doctor's (according to their meter) was 470 something... My number was HORRIBLE when I found out the scale! Who knows how long these high numbers were around!?

OMG! I am four feet ten inches!:D:D:D

I'm pretty small for my age. My grandma/ mom are 4"9

I'm only 4 ft.... People call me "midget" or "mini-me". At school we were talking about dwarfism and my friend thought that older people might call me "dwarf" because they know what it means......

I'm small and proud of it; I just don't like it when people make fun of my size
