For those of you with the Omnipod. How many PDM's do you have and how many were approved by your insurance? Ours (Coventry) will only cover 1, but I think we really need 2. The cost of 2 is still way less than a traditional pump, but they still say "no"....to them they think it means 2 pumps, by the way it's coded.
Just curious if other companies covered 2 or more?
thanks!

At one point Omnipod just shipped us a second one at no charge. I assume this was because our coverage changed to include it. It is nice to have a back up.

We only have one. Ours won't pay for a second either. We haven't purchased a backup. When her screen broke, they overnighted a new one. And the old one was still working. It would be nice to have a back up it though....Next time she drops it we might not be so lucky

No, having more then 1 pdm at a time will not work for school and home as only 1 pdm will work with an activated pod at a time. If there is a problem with the pdm or it is lost or stolen then you can use the new pdm for a new pod but not the old pod.
We did purchase a spare pdm. Our insurance would not cover it. It was $300.00.

This is most likely what we'll end up doing. I want to have a back-up in case of emergency...lost, stolen, smashed, etc. $300 isn't too bad.

That was what we figured as well.

We only have one, insurance only covers 1. *knock on wood* We have thought about purchasing a back up but haven't.

I don't think that any insurance will cover 2 pdm's. My husband works for a school district and we have the empire government plan which is supposed to be very good insurance and they will not cover 2 pdm's. We have 2 because I was an idiot and cleaned the screen with an alcohol prep and damaged the plastic. I purchased a new one and keep the damaged one as a back up (the screen is hazy, but you can still read it in a pinch)

I'm glad you said that! I probably would have done the same thing. I use an alcohol prep to clean my cell phone all the time and it never caused a problem.

I was told by Insulet that our insurance was going to cover 80 percent. But I just got our Explanation of Benefits from our insurance company, and they claim they're not covering ANY of the PDM (we only have one). I called Insulet, and I assume (better check on that, I guess) that they're renegotiating.
It would be very nice to have a spare...

Only one was approved even though the endo wrote the order for 2. We will be purchasing a back up very soon.
