I have finally come down with whatever has been making me feel out of it for the past week..Now I have the chills, body aches,a cough and a stomach ache, temperature of 102.8, my glucose has been holding steady in the 170's for the past couple of days. Large ketones in urine but on the Precision meter they are at 1.2 (this is small, right?)

I know I am to drink lots of fluids and I can do this with small sips..I have sugar-free 7Up as well as water with a packet of true lemon, plain water has been making me gag..

I called my Primary Care doc and she told me to come in if the fever goes higher.

What do you all do on sick days?

Since I am not on any insulin yet, I do not know if what I am doing is enough.

I did manage to contact another family in town who is in the same home school program we are in and she has told me she will come pick up Kelton so he can do his schooling at her house for the remainder of the week.

Oh and Kelton and I both had our flu shots, so I am not sure what this is.

I've only ever gone by the urine ketone strips, but I'd say that from what I've read here, 1.2 is kinda high. Does the plain water taste funny, like metal or acid? That's probably from the ketones and it means you have alot in your blood. The stomach ache could be from that as well.
It's been a while since I've had something with a fever, but I usually increase the insulin and drink gatorade to keep the ketones down. Since you're not on insulin, it's really hard to see that working well for you. There is such a thing as euglycemic DKA, it's DKA with normal-ish blood sugars (<250) and can happen when you're sick but it's rare. Watch out for vomiting, even if your blood sugars are not crazy high. It might be a good idea to go in if you vomit more than once.
I really hope you don't have the flu, but it's running rampant everywhere it seems. The flu shots this year don't look like they did much good. Try and get some rest, and drink something with calories (broth if you can tolerate it, or a popsicle). I hope you feel better.:cwds:

I've been told that the flu shot isn't covering the string of flu going around this year. I don't know how accurate that is, but I've heard about a lot of people getting it who've had the shot.
Can you put in a call to your endo? WIth illness, you may need to start on a small amount of insulin to keep your BG in range and to get rid of ketones. Check BG often and drink plenty of fluids!!! Hope you feel better soon.

How high have your blood sugars been? I hope this isn't the virus that kills the rest of your islet cells :(. But 1.2 ketones are in the low end of the "moderate" range I believe. I start getting nervous when they go above 1.0. It's not like you have any insulin to take....
