kaylee's in the emergency room

Bad day today.she's been throwing up most of the day. Bg has been low, in the 50's most of the day. When she refused to eat or drink I decided it was time to head in. Er has been ok, did an IV right away but ketones were negative when we got here but now 2.2 and er Dr didn't believe me. The on call enfo just happened to call and set him straight! I am on my phone so sorry for any spelling errors.

I'm so sorry. I hope you get a pull-out couch or a comfy chair. Be sure to test blood sugars with your own meter instead of the hospital meters. Much less painful for your child, and their meters will still register the right blood sugars (if they let you do this). Also, if you are waiting to be seen - keep checking blood sugars on your own. Things will get better soon. Glad you're in the ER for the help you need.

Thanks for all the well wishes! We are home for the time being, not sure how long thats going to last, she's still low, but isn't throwing up, I have her basals at 50% but she's got 1.5 ketones.. when I called the endo's office they wanted to know why she was on the pump with low blood sugars,I had to take her off the pump twice yesterday for lows that I couldn't get up.. thus developing ketones... she still has ketones I have to keep insulin in her.. we are headed to her regular pedi soon... to decide what needs to be done.. she's in a fowel mood, refusing to get dressed, refusing to drink.. just grumpy!!

I'm kind of angry with the ER dr. I left the hospital with her having 2.2 ketones, Iknow she had the ketones because she wasn't getting insulin.. the ER dr. didn't believe she had ketones, said her meter was wrong, because when she went in she didn't have any, so there blood work showed negative, well, 3 hours later she DID have ketones..and she still has 1.3ketones right now.. I'm rather annoyed at that ER dr.. the nurse however was fantastic with Kaylee, Kaylee wants to invite her on a play date LOL...

Yes, ER docs don't believe in ketone meters. The one we had said it wasn't accurate. Funny, we were showing high ketones on the meter, he said she didn't have any. When they checked her urine 2 hrs later low and behold, she had high ketones.

Glad the nurse was helpful at least. Definitely better that you went to the Elliot for this.

Been there done that about 1 month ago...she had a stomache virus and was throwing up all over the kitchen floor with a BG of 42. We get to the ER and her BG was 104 and the doc was almost smirking at me. I set him straight and reminded him how fast bg's can plummet and skyrocket. He was looking at me like I was a nervous mother and I over reacted. Some people!

Hope she's out soon...we were out in about 4 hours.

I hope Kaylee is feeling better soon, I just hate it when my kids are sick...makes me so sad. I hope you are able to get rid of the ketones without having to go back to the ER, have you tried lollipops?, they work well for Zeb when he doesn't want to eat or drink anything. Helps keep his bg up enough to treat the ketones.

Poor Kaylee...I hope she is doing better now. We had the stomach thing back in September, all I can say YUCK!

It's funny I always hear people rave about Monadnock, they absolutely dislike Keene. I have not had an issue yet.
