My son is a pumper, and we've noticed that around 11Pm or so, he really spikes, so we've had to increase his basal around 9PM. He's already at .70 then, and tonight we bumped him up to .85. There was a big psychological hurdle to jump over to do this...it just seemed like so much. How high do any of you get at night? BTW, he's 11, so growth hormones are starting to be an issue. We'll see how tonight goes and work from there.

Mia is only 6. Her highest basal is from 5pm till 11pm. It is .375u/hr. The rest of the day is between .2 and .3.

We have somewhat of the same problem or dosage around that time.
Abby's a .55 at midnight but is cut back to .05 from 1am till 5am and then it goes back up to .55. She starts rising pretty good around 6am.

I know the emotions on the increase, but keep telling yourself... if he needs it, he needs it. :cwds:

My daughter is pumping and is 6 years old, I have been going through the same thing, It was troubling me with these huge spikes and big corrections so I knew I needed to adjust basal, she was already on .6 and I went to .7.
This still proved not enought and I was anxious to go higher but we are now up to .75 between 8pm - 1am!

You know we are going through the same thing with our son, now 10. He is currently on .45 from 12-2 then steps up to .60 from 2-6. We have also noticed a spike after 12. Just last night I checked him at 10:30 and he was 157 and that was up from the 8pm check of 125. I though he was holding pretty good so I set the alarm for 2. Ahhhh 4 hours of sleep!!! Well what a surprise when I check him and saw 410!!!!! I did a correction plus bump his basal up 10% for 2 hours. Him came down to 334 by 3 and we did another correction. At 4 he was 303:confused: So we did another correction and by 6 he was still 218.

Here is the weird thing. Probably 70% of the time we see his numbers do this only during the week. On the weekend he is usually fine? We have a school basal and weekend basal, but his total insulin about is pretty close. We only adjust for the sleeping later.

We are having a hard time with adjust his basal to aggressively. We contacted his endo and they said we were giving to much insulin at dinner causing him to drop around the 9-11 time frame. So we cut his ratio back but that has only caused the later numbers to be higher later in the night. They didn’t see a need to change his basal at all. I have not contacted them since this last change and getting higher numbers, but I’m sure they would want us to change those early morning basals. I’m not ready for puberty:eek:

Same here - we tend to run on the low side from 7 - 9, so she has a 9:30 basal at my house of .85...and she is now 10! Then it is .55 at 12, and .5 at 3am...this is a fairly new - a month at most - pattern for us!

ok, i dont want to shock the parents of little ones, but Jesse at 16, has a basal rate of 1.5 from 9pm til 2 am.. then it steps down to 1.3 from 2-6 , then back to 1.4 for the rest of the day.

We only use Lantus, so we have one basal all night, but it keeps her numbers surprisingly level. For example, this is not uncommon and happens on most nights where fat spikes are not involved. She goes to bed and 4.5 hours later (her DIA at night), she is 121. Then at 8:00 am the next morning, she is still in the 120's. We're fortunate that the Lantus keeps her level.

She is highest from 8-10P at .25 each hour, then goes down to .15 and then .05 until 3A. She is 3 1/2, 40 lbs.

Thank you all for the responses. That makes me feel better (and also a little nervous about the teen years:eek:) We did adjust him to .85 at 9pm and that seemed to hold him really well. However, now we need to adjust him in early am and start to give him less insulin then. Seems like he's done a reverse of what he used to be (used to be okay early night and high in am). I guess that's the ever-changing world of our d kid! I appreciate everyone's input.

Oh, I feel so much better seeing all the basil rates. I thought my son's were so low, but they really are comparable. Thanks all who posted! I hate going at this alone.

Oh my goodness!!!! I know they said my daughter was insulin resistant and was on a high dose of insulin, but no wonder she's gaining wait from the insulin. Her 12am basal in 2.2. She runs between 2.1 and 2.4 all day long. And the endo was concerned about her weight gain. They thought she might be bingeing. She IS on insulin!!:rolleyes:

Anyone else have these excessive amounts? She is 14 and hormones are creating havoc. Any suggestions? Anyone?

Andy is 12 (will be 13 at the end of July). He is big (95% height and weight) for his age.

His current basals are:
4pm - midnight = .9
midnight - 6:30 am = .8
6:30 am - 4:00pm = .95

Sometimes we have 4 or 5 different basal rates throughout the day. We have been havig some issues with nighttime highs, but I suspect it's mostly dinner related. We tend to eat late (6:30-7:00), and he puts away huge quantities of food these days, so I usually have to dual wave to account for extra fat & protein. I just lowered his evening I:C ratios, so
I'll see if it does the trick tonight!

I'm with you ..... age and hormones galore.

Danielle is 2.2 of an afternoon, but gets down as far as 1.7 or 1.8 at night (we just changed them)...she was waking up low.
