My daughter is younger than you but also very active and she as well as my family LOVE the Omnipod. You DO NOT see it under tighter clothes, it has not posed a problem with bathing suits.
It has been a godsend for us.
GOod luck in your search. My recommendation is talk to your endo and try out all the different pumps to see what YOU like about them.

You can't go wrong...so it is just about personal choice. Like Allene said, look at them all. I kind of wish we could have two pumps. I would love to try an omnipod!

i have been doing some research and i am leaning toward an animus or Cozmo just because they seem like a better system. I'm not trying to excluded mm or omni pod Just trying to see why people like them or what sold them on it.

We've been looking at all the pumps for our little girl. I think they're all great. We've let her decide and she's chosen the Animas for the simple fact that it looks cool to her. She likes the size, screen and feel of it. My dh currently is using the MM and is happy with it. He is switching to the Animas now, so they will be on the same pump.
Check them all out in person, push those buttons, see what works for you. Again, I think they're all great systems. Just a personal choice.

The Cozmo and Animas are pretty different sizes. Also, the Cozmo hangs "vertical" and the Animas "horizontal". You might want to try and see each one and make sure you are comfortable wearing it.

My DH and almost 3 yr old DD are both on the Minimed. We have been extremely pleased with the pumps and the support of the customer service reps and the trainers here. My DH is very active--camping, canoeing, biking, running, etc. and the Minimed has fit very well into his lifestyle. He loves the freedom and flexibility the pump offers. Our almost 3 yr old cannot be stopped--even with the pump!
My suggestion is to actually get your hands on the different pumps and play around with them. Ask lots of questions to the companies and people who use them then make your decision.
Good luck!

I think you can hang any pump any way you want. A lot of people are liking the omnipod.
we looked closely at all of them and then chose minimed.
I think we made a good choice, but all of the pumps are good, have good reputations, and lots of advocates for them.
So, you may end up comparing and just going by looks!!!! Its really that close.

My daughter is 12 and has been pumping w/ Animus for about 3 weeks now. She finds it easy to use, and likes the look and style of it. WHen I was looking to get the pump the adivce I received is that they are all good, it is just what you want and what is important to you about the different features.

My son, 16 has been pumping with a Cozmo for 5.5 years and love it.
They're all good but have diferent differences..
Check them all out.
Just be aware that the Animas only comes with a 200 U resevoir- where the Cozmo and MM pumps hold 300U. Jesse is using close to 100U a day- thats one of the reasons we didnt go with Animas... even tho he thought the screen was very cool...

Hi,
My teen son is using the Animas and likes it a lot. It is a very slim, sleek looking pump that fits easily in your pocket or on a clip on your waist. I get the impression from reading posts here that it has a better system for calculating "insulin on board" than the Minimed (which is a really useful feature) -- but I may have that wrong.
The ONE drawback we've found with the Animas is the smaller cartridge size. How much insulin are you using now? When Aaron started he was still honeymooning and it held more than enough, but now, like many teen boys, he can rip through a lot of insulin in a day, and he usually has to top up the cartridge on the 2nd night. It's not a huge deal -- he doesn't have to actually change the infusion set earlier -- but it's hard to remember and he does run out of insulin sometimes.
Otherwise, it's been great. But I think most people have that experience with their pumps, whatever brand they choose. I hope you enjoy yours!

I have pumped with Minimed (8 years) and now am using the Omnipod system. For one thing, no matter which pump you choose it is an opportunity to really improve your life! I wish you the best in your choice and pumping journey. I wish I would've had the option to pump as a teen. I was 16 when diagnosed and wish I knew then what I know now. (: Good for you! Anyway, what I love about my Omnipod is the discretion. I can check my BG in the car and then go in to a restaurant and do my thing without anybody knowing- not that I am a "Closet Diabetic" or anything- I am a diabetes educator- but sometimes I don't want an audience when I am taking care of my diabetes, ya know? I also like that it's on me and I don't have to figure out which pocket I will hook my pump on, like I used to. But I always carry a purse, so it is easy for me to have my PDM closeby - I can see where it would be a little more challenging for those who don't carry purses- As far as tethered pumps go, I think the Animas is cool in that it is water proof- so if you like water sports in the summer, that would be a really good option- All of the pumps have their selling points. Hopefully your endo/CDE will have some for you to play with and see what fits your lifestyle the best. Good luck!

We are going to start pumping in April. We chose the Minimed solely because I believe they are the leader in CGMS technology, and show every sign of continuing to be the leader. I think that is where we are going to see the biggest improvements in technology in the next 5-10 years, and everything I've read makes me believe Medtronic will be leading the pack.
Otherwise, the pumps really are so similar in function that I don't think you can go wrong. The Omnipod is intriguing to me, but I worry how it would work on my very active 4 year old. I also don't like the fact that it can't be detached.
Good luck in your choice!

We have the Animas 2020. I do agree that the hardware of the Animas is better than e.g. the MM. Smaller increments, more frequent basal delivery, larger (hence easier to view, navigate) screen etc.
BTW, why are you thinking about waiting another 6 months? The pump changed our lives and we are very glad we started early on.
