View Full Version : Only something WE can get excited about...

I need to share something and this is the type of thing that only we, here on this site, can really appreciate.

I posted last week about an endo visit that didn't go so great. He told Aidan (who has a huge phobia of needles) that basically if he didn't get his act together it was back to shots  high a1c and so on...no valid suggestions just what we are doing wrong.

Anyway, I am considering changing endos but am having some issues in making the switch. Well years back Gary Scheiner (author of Think Like A Pancreas) worked with our Children's Hospital and is actually the one who put Aidan on his 1st pump. I don't believe that he still works directly with the hospital in the same capacity that he used to so as time when by we ended up just sticking with the hospital.

Well after the last appnt we had we called Gary to see about hooking back up with him to handle Aidan's care (we would still need to go to the endo for scripts and whatnot) but Gary would oversee Aidan's daily care, we can submit numbers to him and he will HELP us make the changes and tweak things so that Aidan will be in better shape.

We go to see him on Monday, March 24th, that will be our initial visit and then we will be able to work with him directly from there on and just make quarterly visits to the endo. Also it looks as if our insurance will reimburse us for the visits as "Outpatient Diabetes Education" (and at least at 70%) :)

I am very excited and relieved. We always had a good relationship with Gary and so did Aidan. He treats us with respect and values what we have to say.

Anyway sorry to run on and on here, but I had to share this with my family here. You are really the only ones who truly get this. I am excited and I am excitied for Aidan.

That's not a small thing that's huge! Good for you! Isn't it sad that the endo won't take the time to get your son's numbers right. I'm glad you have such a great option!!! That sounds really awesome to learn from a guy like that!!! Keep us posted on how that works out. Where do you live? Sounds like something I'd like to do to depending on geography of course. I wish you all the best!!!!

Wow that is really great. Good for you for going out there and making it happen, your son (your whole family really) was not getting the care he needed and you did the right thing. I hope it works out well and you are able to tackle some of those tough issues, I know you were really hoping for help from the endo and were so disappointed.

Good Job

I love Gary's "Think Like a Pancreas" and his lesser known book on carb counting. You're very lucky. :D

I am so glad that you will be seeing Gary Scheiner. I met him this past weekend at the Focus on Pumping Conference in Seattle and he is a great person. I am sure he will be the right person for your son. I learned so much from him just in the two days of the conference.

That's fantastic. Jeez, I'd be excited just to meet the guy.

I hope this really helps you with Aidan's numbers too. Sounds like you haven't been getting much more than threats from your endo.
