So we went to our endo today, and Andriella's A1C was 9.3 up from 8.1:eek: If you have read my threads before you know I have had problems with the nurse there. Anyway the doctor asked me why I thought she was getting such high numbers and said well I have been sending my numbers in every two weeks and then following the instructions I was given which wasn't much. I told her told that two weeks ago I got on here asking for help and she has better numbers since. I wonder what her A1C would of been if u guys wouldn't of helped me out? Then the endo tells me we should get her on a pump ASAP and I tell I asked for one two months ago and was told I had to wait until June:mad: I'm so annoyed right now!

I can understand your frustration. I would've been annoyed too. Your following their advice and they are asking you why?

Well the A1C is there to give us a glimpse of what bs numbers are over the last few months. It is a good tool that allows us to pinpoint some unstable bs numbers and something to work from.

Maybe this will get your support teams attention and make them realize they need pay more attention to your daughters numbers and work with you to achieve this. And hopefully if she gets on the pump you will see great results.

Take care and chin up.

Let us know how things go.

The A1C reflects something you were aware of, and it is annoying because if you had gotten better support numbers could have been better sooner. Nonetheless, it looks like it may have finally moved the endo in the right direction so that's good.

it can also be highs over night that you're not catching.

Plus with Christmas - I doubt anyone is going to get a great one unless you knew EVERY carb that went in over the holiday season.

We're going for ours on Friday and I'm not holding much hope that we'll improve on our last reading.

SOldier on yourself if they're not much use. And LOG LOG LOG - so you can see patterns.

What does your meter average say? If you meter average is far off from than the A1C, then it can help moving around testing times, or add more tests.

One thing that helped us it to always test late a night (11pm, 12am) before I go to bed. This catches lots of nighttime highs that way.

Her meter average is down to 164 but it was at 274 a few weeks ago.

I never look at A1c as good or bad, just a tool to show me where we stand, and that we may have to change some things, or there was an illness, full moons, high tides, or a ton of other variables. I just try to work on things until the next a1c. We will all experience higher and lower a1cs at one time or another.

The A1c is not good or bad. It is just another indicator of what is going on. Don't think of a high number as a failure...but maybe as a ticket to a pump!

Get another A1C, then! :D

Seriously, we have bad high weeks where the average is 200+, and I'm sure that conked our last A1C by a full point. As the others said, it's not a grade, it's just an a clue where to look. If you can explain that with "well, we had a bad week but things are better now" then you're doing fine.

You guys are right I shouldn't look at A1C as good or bad but I think I'm just upset because I feel like if I would of got the help I was asking for it wouldn't be so high. When I sent her numbers in they would say yes her numbers are running but don't change anything she is probably just coming out of her honeymoon or going through a growth spurt, they said this every two weeks for 2 and half months. So I finally got on here and asked you guys what I should change, I ended up changing her meal ratios by twenty points and she is getting better numbers. So when I go to the endo and I am told that she has poor control over her diabetes it makes me crazy, its just scary to me how much parents end up doing on their own to keep their kids healthy.

I love this site!!

That's why I'm glad Nick's A1c results are mailed. :o

Being told you have "poor control" is not exactly uplifting or helpful (or even remotely meaningful to a 5yo....). :(

It's the day to day management and how your dd feels that really counts......NOT the endo's seal of approval or even a "wonderful" A1c because they can get messed up by a lot of factors.

But........ If her #s continue as they are now, it sure sets you up for a much more positive response from the endo next time and everyone is "happy"!:D
