More pump questions.... What are the best set-ups? My DD is small with not much body fat. Which ones are the least painful? Which ones stay in the best? What is your childs favorite spot to put it in? We are going to get an Animas pump, Do you have a choice on set-ups?
Thanks everyone,
Judy

With the Animas pump, you can use any sets that aren't MiniMed proprietry ones. So Insets, Inset 30's, Cleos etc.
Some people with very skinny children prefer angled sets (Inset 30's, Comforts etc) but some do fine on normal straight-in sets (Insets, Cleos etc). What you really should do is try a few and find which you like best.
Also some people prefer using needle sets, where a tiny needle is left in the skin instead of a canulla. There is no concern about kinked canullas in these, which is reassuring especially to new pumpers.

CWD has a page on the different infusion sets. http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/pumps/infusionsets.htm

Probably using her bum would be the best place to start.. when we started pumping Kaylee was 3 years old and 28lbs, soaking wet.. we actually started with her belly, which I was very surprised with. If doing it over, I think I would have started with her bum, that was always a little squishy ;) Now we use her belly, legs, and back of the arms.. we save her bum for the cgms sensor. We use the quick-set, which is 90degrees straight in, 6mm cannula.. a lot of people like the angeled sets for thin ones.. I'm not sure what they are called for the animas, as Minimed has their 'own' sets, animas and cosmo can use the same sets.. Kaylee's CDE is the one that decided which set to start her on.. and we've just stuck with it... call her endo/cde and see what they suggest:)

My son is skin and bone. We use the cleo's and we can only use the butt. When I put them in his stomach his muscle pushes it out after about half a day. The cleos go in on a 90 degree angle and leave a cathyder behind. We also tried the insets and they did the same thing. I might try the angled ones, but haven't gotten there yet. The RN really just wanted to start with the 90 degree ones and go from there.

I hope that is a little helpful. ;)

We use the Animas 2020 with the Inset Infusion Set. When Abby started pumping, she was all of 26lbs fully dressed and soaking wet! We started using her bottom for the sets and have since progressed to the back of her arms and her legs. She is very aprehensive about using her belly (plus there is zero fat there) so we don't push it. I figure that unfortunately we'll be at this for a while so we can save that area.

when we started pumping we used the comfort shorts. then a few year ago the inset came out.

Jess is tiny (6 yrs old weighs 37 lbs).. We had strictly used her bottom and thighs when she was little. about 2 yrs ago we started using her stomach also (even though there is little fat on her) and we have great success.

I would get samples of several different sets and see which works best for you. I have comforts left. If you would like I can send you a few.
