Since I fired the Endo that Kelton and I go to, I was wondering how high my glucose has to be for a doctor to put me on insulin..I have tested positive for the GAD65 antibodies so it is only a matter of time before I will require insulin..
Now I had 30 carbs for dinner and my two hour after number of 133 which is not bad but since I have been on my low carb diet my numbers have been running in the lower 90's two hours after meals..My morning wake up numbers have been a little out of wack and more than 100 and up to 120. The endo wanted my morning wake up numbers to be between 80-100, my two hour after numbers to be less than 100
I am eating no more than 30 carbs for breakfast, lunch and dinner and everything is on the low GI index. My last C-Peptide was on the lower side of normal. The tumor is dead now, so this may be the beginning of the end..That sounded bad
Now I know what to look for with Kelton,But for myself this is a different ballgame and right now I am feeling better since I am not eating heavy carbs..More energy, but lets be honest here once a major holiday comes around and if I were to eat more than 30 carbs at a sitting I will no doubt go into glucose hell with highs..
I am in the process of getting a new endo, and until then I will continue to starve myself on this low carb diet..Yes, I am hungry all the time but I now have self-control and if I must have something to eat I take a bite into a head of lettuce

My goal for Lantus -- to have my fasting number under 110.
I will start on fast acting once my post meal numbers are consistantly over 160-180. My endo said the key word here is consistantly!!! Sometimes I have numbers this high, but never consistantly. And I can't raise my lantus any more otherwise I'll go low during the day.
Are you still having your lows? Hope that helps. Are you still on Lantus?
For your 2 hour numbers to be less than 100 seems a little out of whack -- why can't they be higher than 100. Like under 140 or something??

The most I ever eat at a meal is about 35 grams of carbo, but that's just because I like being able to control my post meal numbers without taking a huge amount of insulin. Are you able to sneak in a snack here and there? If I were you, I would try to find ways to add calories if you're really very hungry. Nuts and cheese, omelets or something like a grilled chicken salad with regular dressing or tuna salad are all low carb and small enough to qualify as a snack, but are also filling. I can eat the chargrilled chicken salad at chickfila and the caesar salad at wendy's without having to bolus, as long as I leave off the croutons.

I agree, under 100 is very strict and even people without diabetes would be hard pressed to get under 100 with every meal. I had a goal of under 120 at 2 hours when I was pregnant, and that was hard. It would probably help a lot to try and take a little lantus, even if it just a couple units at this point. It might make it easier to eat more carbs at your mealtimes, because even if you're higher than normal, the extra insulin would help you come back down without stressing your pancreas.

I was taken off of the Lantus more than a month ago because I had more lows..
The endo I fired old me if my two hour after numbers were over 100 then he would cut me down to having only 15-20 carbs per meal..Now as it is, if I sneak in a snack with more than 10 carbs I have higher pre-meal numbers..
This morning my wake up number was 132, so I am almost afraid to have my cup of morning coffee:(
I am still having lows, now bad ones..For example two weekends ago I woke up from a bad dream at 3am and went to the kitchen and tested and the meter said LO so this means I was lower than 20  Apparently I made a lot of noise in my search for glucose because everyone (Mark, Kelton, Nik and both dogs) found me sitting in front of the fridge gulping down pancake syrup, 30 minutes later I managed to get back up to 88..But this is the lowest I have been and my lows are normally between 30-70 of course now I do not feel them anymore.

Research seems to indicate that the sooner you can get on insulin the better. Maybe just a tiny bit of Lantus will help?
BTW, I LOVE that you "fired" your endo. Just like you would a crummy plumber. Same thing in my opinion.

BTW, I LOVE that you "fired" your endo. Just like you would a crummy plumber. Same thing in my opinion.I would consider taking a 1/2 unit of Lantus if I weren't so afraid of lows..So, until I see the new Endo I will just keep on eating low to no carbs to keep my glucose under control. I will admit that when I was directed to take 1 unit of Lantus every day I felt so much better, but I still had some terrible lows. Then again I am still having lows, so it is a catch 22 right now..
One thing I have noticed is that as long as I stay under the 20 carbs per meal and 10 grams per snack I do not have problematic two hour after numbers. They are still a little higher than I like (140-150) but when Kelton sees numbers like this I am thrilled..
I have found that it is so different now and harder for me to deal with when it comes to my glucose problems, I could deal with Kelton's D even though at times it was confusing. But to have to worry about myself as well as what else has been going on in my family I have been overwhelmed.

I was on fast acting first, and corrected over 150. I quickly progressed from there.
