I think Samantha's honeymoon phase is starting to end, her numbers are all over the place. But lately when she is in a normal range (120 to 180)she complains of a stomach ache and head ache, but when she is 230 to 330 she says she feels fine. So I asked my endo's nurse about this and she told me this is not normal that she thought she has an infection and to take her to our ped. So I took Samantha in yesterday he checked her out ran some test and just as I thought she is fine.. I kept asking is it just that she is getting use to being high and the normal range is making her feel sick...the dr seems to agree with me he also said it could be that she is dropping to normal numbers too fast so that could be making her feel ill. He thinks once she is on the pump this will strighten out.

If a child has been "running high" for awhile, then a normal BG level will feel like a low. Once you get them steady in their target range, that effect will go away.

Sierra was the same way in the beginning. Anytime she would get below 120 or so so felt low. The endo said this was normal as her body's normal at that point was actually very HIGH. Now that we have our #'s in a fairly normal range she only feels low when she is dropping fast or is below 75 - 80.

Yes, I think it's kind of like if you kicked a habit like caffeine or nicotene. You will go through withdrawal. Your body is used to having too much sugar and you feel lousy for awhile without it.

I remember when my dad was alive (type 1), he and my mom went out for pie when he felt low. This was 25+ years ago. He died at 59. In hindsight I'll bet he wasn't even low. He was probably just in normal range which in those days may have been abnormal for him. I'm guessing he was high most of the time. I can't imagine someone who was truly low getting in the car, driving to Perkins, and then ordering and waiting for their pie to come.

Oh my gosh--my daughter Lindsay is also running a constant headache and stomachache--goes to her school nurse about 2-3 times a week complaining of this--the nurse always checks her blood sugars and sometimes they are high but sometimes they are normal. So why is she feeling so bad all the time??!! I feel so bad for her!

Wow I feel so much better Andi has been doing the same thing and I thought I was missing something, the doctor said she was fine but I feel like a bad mom when her teacher keeps telling me she complains of a headache and stomachache all the time. I have been changing her ratio a lot and I am finally seeing her in range for the first time in about three months...so I bet you guys are right and she just needs to get use to it.

It is not normal to have headaches and stomach aches all the time, but sometimes the symptoms of our children have nothing to do with the D. I would take your daughter to a doctor, to get her checked out.
