I didnt know I was also getting a new meter when I got the pump. MM sent me The Paradigm Link Blood Glucose Monitor.I like the ideal of it automatically transmiting bg test results to the Pump, but I also have something like 800 one touch test strips, so I would have to change strips to the BD ones. If anyone is using there meter do you like it is it worth switching? I dont think at first I will use it since I am a bit over whelmed with this whole pump thing as it is ( its still sitting in the box waiting for pump classes to start)but once I master the pump would it be a good ideal to change?? how much time does it really save, does it really take less blood like it claims??

Their paradigm linked monitor is changing to a One Touch platform soon anyway, so I would just wait for the change if I were you. Then you will remain with what what you are familiar with and will not have to change scripts. We were never pleased with the BD when we used it anyway. I think most are looking forward to the change to One Touch, which should be happening very soon. The advantage of the BD is that is does require less blood, but I never trusted the accuracy. I had several questionable readings when we used it. That's just my 2 cents. Good luck with the pump start!

It is convient to have the link to the pump. You wouldn't think it s a big deal to not have to dial in the blood sugar to the wizard, but it is nice. They will be switching over from the BD to the Onetouch very soon. So if you are interested in using the link, know that there will be another option soon.

I know some people hate the BD, we haven't had any problems with it and use it soley.

Oh, one more thing...you use it to upload your pump to Carelink. In case you want to look at the numbers better. :)

Is that why they sent it because isnt being phased out? I mean the one I was sent cant use one touch strips.. so there will be a new one if I understand this right..good way for MM to get rid of the old stuff ship it to you if you want it or not then bill your insurance company:rolleyes:

We also got the BD meter with Chell's pump. I do plan on having Chell use the BD meter, its just one less step that she has to do. In matter of fact MM was on my list to call to see if they can send me another meter so Chell has two(she always forgets hers)

MM is sending the new meter to everyone as soon as it is available, so I don't think they did it to get rid of excess inventory :D, they just don't have the new meters for everyone yet - but supposedly MARCH!

I do use the BD, I don't hate it, I don't like it - I miss my light! I do LOVE it being transmitted to the pump!

if it were me, I wouldn't bother switching, I'm actually surprised they are still sending out that meter.. its been discontinued.. MM is replacing ALL those meters with the ultra link as soon as it becomes available (should be within the next few months) We did use the BD meter because it was so nice to have her numbers sent right over to the pump BUT I found it in accurate.. I"m waiting for the ultra link.. I really like the line of one touch meters, but we use freestyle lite because of the less blood it needs..

anyway.. if you don't want to switch, don't do it.. when the new link meter comes, it should be using the same strips as the other one touches, so you'll be all set.. yeah for the pump arriving:)

They are not trying to get rid of excess inventory. MM sends a paradigm link glucose meter with all paradigm pumps. The BD is the one currently available. They will be switching as soon as the other is available. They sent you the one that is currently part of the package. As someone else stated, they are supposed to ship everyone with a paradigm pump the new meter when it comes available, and that should include you as well.

we used the BD meter when DD first got her mm pump, im looking forward to the new one from MM. the only thing I didnt like about it transmitting to the pump, is that sometimes you dont need the BG to be sent to the pump, like if you are just resting because DD thinks she might be low or whetever. and you can be in another room from the pump and it will still send it. im hoping that the new meter will have the ability to give you the option weather you want the Bg to be transmitted to the pump.

This is cool. It's a feature of the MM that I didn't know about. I like our Accu-Chek, but if they switch to the One Touch, we'll be using it!

I was concerned with the glucose monitor sending from another room, so If we have a concern then we will use another monitor, or temp stop telling the pump/monitor from sending blood sugars.

You know, since you are using cgms, you probably don't want to "link" anyway. We don't use the "link" option when we are using the minilink. It will auto calibrate and we both know what a nightmare that would be.

We use the BD and have a mini One Touch for a back up. The BD takes way less blood. One Touch is going to have to work on that issue before I make the switch. That being said...I'm not always thrilled with the BD. The sending the BG number to the pump feature can be a huge time saver. If your insurance will pay for it, get some strips to try the BD meter. From there, you can decide which meter you want to use.

The new meter they have coming out in March from One Touch will do what the BD is doing- the new meter just isn't out yet.
It's standard to send the meter with the pump, MM wasn't getting rid of old stuff. I'm surprised you didn't know the meter talks to the pump with MM.
I think you have a bad taste in your mouth from your experience on the phone with MM.

Has anyone heard any details about the new Ultra Link meter? I'm surprised Minimed hasn't released any information if it's going to be distributed next month. Will it simply be a current One Touch meter (such as the Ultra 2) with linking capability? Has anyone gotten any details from their Minimed rep?

When I was talking to the rep to see if I cou:old also get my strips from MM ( I am using the one touch) he told me that they should be switching to the one touch in Aug. It would be great if one touch took less blood then for sure my mind wouldbe made up:)

I hope it is March, not August
I rec'd a flyer from a local MM rep yesterday about an open house and on the flyer it states "Find out how to upgrade your meter to the One Touch Ultra 2", so it is definitely the ultra 2 they are going with. Which, of course, does take more blood than the BD.

I just realized, I was answering the post thinking Michelle from Iowa had asked the question. Disreguard my suggestion of not linking because of CGMS...OOPS!

I was wondering, have you tested your new BD meter with your regular meter that you always use. Make sure you do a control test first.

I did, Chell's precision xtra was 87 the BD was 155

I do know that the precision is accurate, when chell had the procedure done a few weeks ago we tested her blood sugars agains lab.

Here is our readings from that;
Precision xtra 183
Lab 202
CGM 223

So I would say our precision xtra is fine.

I did call the new company that is taking over the BD meters, told them about our results. Then they tried to give me garbage about user error,
Every thing was calibrated correctly on all monitors.

So they are sending me a new BD meter, to replace the new one we just got. If you call the number on the back of the meter, they will give you another number. Here is the new number for the BD meters 1-800-681-7390. They did tell me I will have a new meter in two days. Also they put me on the list for the NEW,NEW meter that is coming out in March.

Those who are just going on the MM pumps, you really might want to do a control solution test, and then compare blood sugars with both meters, using just one finger stick with enough blood for both.
