We are doing a trial of the Omnipod for my 4 year old. Within 24 hours the pod came disconnected from the adhesive. SHe wasn't very active that day and had jammies on all day. We had it on her fatty area of lower back. She is very small, the only other okace we could put it would be her legs. My main question I am wondering if anyone else has a problem with the pod coming off and the adhesive staying on?
Thanks for your input we are very new to diabetes and to this forum!

my daughter is also very petite.
What occurred that the pod became unattached, did she hit it on something, get it yanked off?
we use belly and arms now. Although at first we could not as my daughters arms were not big enough.
how about going lower on the butt? what about thigh placement?
We do not use the thighs as my daughter had bad results with mdi on the thighs and we just have not tried it again.

Griffin was 2.5 when we started on the pod. Insulet recommended the lower back, but that REALLY didn't work well at all until he was almost 4. Our best spots when he was smaller were belly and upper butt.
We've only had 2 or 3 pods shear off from the adhesive patch. It takes a pretty good whack to do that in our experience.

Thank you so much for the info. We are going to try again and see what happens. Unfortunatley she doesn't have much fat on her tummy. I was thinking of trying her leg and then upper butt. We'll see. I have heard many good things about omnipod I am very hopeful it will work for us!

I have no personal experience with the Omnipod but the rep last week at our meeting said to prepare the skin, vigorously rub the area with an alcohol swab/pad and then let it dry. Pinch at least an inch....then adhere.

It used to come off Bethany in the very beginning when we used no extra adhesive. We started with mastisol which worked well but she developed an allergy to the adhesive so now we put tegaderm on her skin first, the pod goes over it, then I cut 2 oval tegaderms to make 4 rainbow shapes and place them all around the adhesive strip. It NEVER comes off now.
GL and HTH!
I just re-read your post...so to clarify, it only came off the adhesive once, when Bethany fell in such a way that it got caught on the edge of her toy chest.

my daughter has zero fat on her tummy and it is her favorite placement for pods. It is all muscle. THe girl has a 6 pack:p. We still make sure we pinch ( but on the belly I pinch a more/harder) good luck,

Laurie - not sure if some of the other posters were quite understanding your issue - you don't have a problem with the adhesive sticking - it's the pod sticking to the adhesive.... :)
We have only had a few pods come off of the adhesives - and each time it has happened, it was caused by some rough play.. Getting kicked in the back coming down a slide (pod on lower back)... jumping off the counter top and shearing the pod right off (again lower back)... a wrestling move (lower back)... Sometimes towards the end of the 3 days, the pod looks a little rough, hanging off in places by just threads - we don't use any extra adhestion to keep it in place..
I find it kinda strange that the pod came off the adhesive after only 24hrs - unless you think there was some rough play involved. Our "safest" spot to put the pod is on the upper butt cheek - protected by the underwear and pants - and amazingly there hasn't been any problems with pulling the pants up and down for the potty..
Try another spot and see what happens? Diabetes is always a guessing game! :cwds: Good Luck!

Hi Laurie.
We have a 3 1/2 yr old daughter that started on the pod the beginning of January. Every pod would rip off of the adhesive if we do not tape them down. We tried many things (bandaids, medical tape from the store, etc.) but by far the absolute best is a tape we received from our Insulet rep called Hypafix. It is the same material as the adhesive on the pod, comes off with baby oil and sticks great, as long as you clean the area the tape goes on just like the pod adhesive. I take a piece about 4 to 5 inches long, cut it lengthwise to make two strips and tape the pod down snugly but not too tight so it still can rock a bit. It simply gives the pod the support to not rip the adhesive, but still move the amount it needs to. We use the butt cheek, middle to upper at a slight angle, window side up and out, other side down and by the butt-crack (also suggested by Insulet rep).
Hope this helps! Jodi

Jenna is slim as well, and she prefers the backs of the upper arms by a long shot. I gently squeeze her arm outward during insertion, and we've never had a problem. We then slip an adult-sized wrist sweatband over it while she sleeps or is playing hard. We haven't lost one yet. We also use the tummy.
