I'm wondering what everyone uses for the carb count for Kraft Mac & Cheese. I don't know if I've not had enough caffeine today, but I'm not getting what they have printed on the box! It says:

Serving size 2.5 oz. (70g/about 1/3 box) (Makes about 1 cup) Carbs 48g.

I know when I use the carb count from a box of spaghetti, she goes way low. So we had been using 15 carbs per 1/2 cup. The last time my daughter had the mac & cheese, I used the same thing and she was high. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I use 24g for 1/2 cup serving. Then, I will do a combo bolus because she goes low. I've found that a 40/60 over 2.5 hrs works best. It seems that the pasta just sits in her gut a lot longer than most other foods. We do have better results with Annies mac n' cheese.

We usually use the Easy Mac individual packets, so it's a little different, but I haven't noticed that I have to vary from the carb count on the box for those (42 carbs/serving). What I'd probably do in your shoes is try 20 carbs/1/2 cup, test her at two hours, and be prepared to give her a small snack if it looks like she's going low.

Maybe people who are on the pump can give you some of that fancy-schmancy "square wave/dual wave" advice that would help. We're still low-tech here. ;)

I weigh out 100g of cooked mac and cheese and bolus 25 g of carb. We can't use easy mac, her #'s go completely out of control. I find mac and cheese lasts a long time in her system. I often have to correct at 4-5 hrs. I can't seem to get down the dual wave bolus.

Thanks! I appreciate the quick replies. She's eating now and then to the orthodontist and then practice. I'm going to bolus conservatively today since practice drops her. That dual bolus sounds interesting, but we've never tried it. Thanks again!

You know how they advertise it's the "cheesiest"- Well that's the cheesiest carb count I've ever seen put on a box! How much is "about a cup"?!
I use my 1/2 cup of pasta is 15 carbs for this product.

I use about 65 g KD is 15 carbs (I always weigh as I never know if a 1/2 c is packed or loose) FYI - a lot of the carb counts on pasta boxes are for DRY pasta.

While I do use 30grams for 1 cup of regular pasta, I follow the box of mac n cheese for this one, 48 grams. I haven't had any problems. It is amazing if that's actually how many carbs are in a cup.

Seth will eat a whole cup, I use 45 grams for the cup like the box says:cwds: It works for us..

If they want less, I would use 1/3 cup is 15 grams.

What funny, is that I'm making Mac right now LOL

I'm not using a pump with my son so I do shots directly after food. I read on this site to use Carb Factors..... I measure all of his foods this way. I use the single mac/cheese which is 42 carbs per serving, which is one envelope. After cooking, I measure how many grams the whole pasta amount is then I figure the carb factor. It works great because I know exactly how many carbs he's eaten.

we use 20carbs per 1/2 cup, pre-bolus, then combo bolus for at least 3 hours.. we've recently switched from regular pasta to wheat pasta and wow, there is a difference.. she needs far less insulin up front and more in the back because it takes so long to digest..

When it comes to mac n cheese what I have done is figure out the total carbs for the whole box and then once it is cooked and made I weigh it and then figure the percent of the total that he eats. I then keep this recorded somewhere and then always use the same ratio. It works well for us.

We use what it says on the box and also we got a big book of information from our hospital with nutrition. In there it had Mac and Cheese, 1 cup was 45. So what it says on the box is close to what the book from the hospital says as well. It worked good for us to follow that.

We had mac-n-cheese tonight with dinner. The Kraft brand with the cheese sauce packet. I used the carb count on the box and sons readings was great all evening and so far still is at 1:00am. The carb count was 45 for 1 cup. So mac-n-cheese, green beans and a baked pork chop actually went well for him (and he LOVES mac-n-cheese)

we just gave insulin for the carb count at dinner and no bolus later.
