have you heard of this. i have heard of this from that Dr. Oz. on oprah. but i just read an article on it. they say that it is very good on lowering blood sugars and cholesterol levels. not to mention helps good bowel movements. i think we are going to give it a try and add that to our daily foods. you can make smoothies and blend it in. i believe it would help our family. especially our shannon who is at more risk of heart disease, high cholesterol.

Well, it is fiber and fiber helps to slow the rise in blood sugar. I can't stand it just floating in liquid, but it works great in smoothies!

I read that this can be used as a way to lower blood sugar after a meal that normally causes high spikes, like breakfast.

We used this with Chell, under a drs prescription. The only thing it did to her was bind her even more. We gradual increased this 6 weeks, like i said under drs prescription, after two weeks and no bowel movements Emergency vist, they hospitalized her for 4 days to clean her system out. Released her again under drs orders to start again, guess what two weeks later Emergency visit again, 4 more days in the hospital to clean her out. After 2nd hospital stay she was off of it.

Chell is not a textbook style patient in any of her medical needs.

What I would suggest; that you start out very slow, and also ask your dr or endocrine. As everyone says, YDMWV.

phsyllium has fiber and slows down digestion hence improves control. BUT if you consume more phsyllium than recommended it can danerousely block the digestion tube (sorry i dont know the exact name) and cause SHOCK!

What's wrong with fiber from fruits, vegetables and whole grains? Please discuss this with the pediatrician as well as the pediatric endocrinologist before using this in your child.

Flaxseeds work better and are more friendly to the system. Phsyllium is extremely binding and most people don't tolorate is well at all.

Definitely!

At this age, I would concentrate more on using fruits/veggies and whole grains. You can add flax seed or wheat germ to foods for an added dose of fiber. Wheat germ is easily added to muffins, pancakes is very tasty on yogurt. Some of my friends even add it to sauces.

I definitely think there are better options than using the Phsyllium. It can be very hard on the system, especially a childs.
