This year Diabetes Youth New Zealand is having its AGM in New Plymouth on Saturday May 10th - with lots of assistance from the wonderful group at Diabetes Youth Taranaki. This has evolved into a 2 day conference with the emphasis very much on family participation. The full programme has yet to be developed, but expect to see talks from specialists from throughout NZ on such things as Transition to Adult services, psychological aspects of living with Type 1 diabetes in children and young people, pumping, coping with sports and diabetes, carbohydrates, camping, and lots more. There will be plenty of opportunity for interaction, panel discussions, question time and of course the all important conference dinner and networking time.
We are trying to keep registration costs to a minimum to allow families to attend. Child care WILL be provided. More details will be on our website www.diabetesyouth.org.nz soon, but feel free to contact me if you require any info in the meantime....we welcome any suggestions.
Chris Murray ( diabetesyouthchch@hotmail.com ) Diabetes Youth New Zealand
PS..we won't say no to any offers of sponsorship either. If you know of anyone who would like to be involved please get them to contact me.

Will you be providing a summary of what you learned and how you enjoyed the conference? How about some pictures of friends meeting for the first time :cwds:?
I saw this one article today Cyclist controls diabetes - Local News - Taranaki Daily News (http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/dailynews/4521850a6554.html)

Ellen - it was brilliant. It went really well with great speakers and lots of people attending. It was really nice to meet up with Dianna and others I've met online. I think a highlight was that as a youth conference it focused on kids and young people with Type 1, and the teenage panel got some curly questions from parents about parenting teens with Diabetes. There was a nice range of topics to suit everyone.
The article in the paper was nice - alongside the main article was a clear concise table of the differences between Type 1 and Type 2.

Dr John Doran is Rachels paediatrician (Head Paediatrician and Chief Medical Advisor of our DHB) and she thinks he's wonderful (so do I :o)
Damien Wiseman is a curent NZ record holder in Cycling.
Somewhere in the crowd is Dianna, but I was sitting to the left of the group photo so you won't see me :cwds:
