Does anyone know when a basal actually hits? By this I mean if a bg is high consistently at 7 a.m., when would you adjust the basal to lower that? I've heard that if you're seeing high numbers at a specific time, adjust the basal rate 2 hours prior (i.e. a 7 a.m. high would be brought down by adjusting the 5 a.m. basal rate). Thanks for any insight on this!

Well, I find that insulin has to be in my system for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours before it starts working, so adjusting 2 hours ahead works for me. If you're really sensitive to the insulin, if it hits you fast, than maybe go only an hour ahead. Don't be afraid to play with it and see what happens.

Eoin's insulin hits after an hour...he seems to be very sensitive so for him I would adjust at 6am for a 7am high....

the way I fugured that out was the length of time it took for correction Buluses to effect the readings

hope that helps a bit

When I change Thomas's midnight and 3am basals I always change it for 3 hours before. So far it has worked.
