My primary physician just called me about the mole I had removed. Basal cell carcinoma. No big deal, I'm sure. It's easily treated, but it's on my right temple, and I am worried about the amount of skin they're going to remove. I see a plastic surgeon on the 18th.

Anyone ever had this done?

My dad and my grandfather had many basal cell carcinomas removed. Skin cancer runs in my family. If you were going to get skin cancer, this is the one you want - though obviously none really! Good a plastic surgeon is doing it - just because it's on the face they'll do the best job.

You should be fine, but sorry you have to deal with it at all. Keep going in and getting checked yearly by a dermatologist. :cwds:

I agree with the other's since you are seeing a plastic surgeon you should be fine..You would never know it if you saw me but I used to have a large scar from my temple down to my jaw, caused by a run away horse running me into a tree branch..All that is left is a itty bitty 3cm scar that no one can see unless I point it out and they have to get a magnifying glass to see it.

I had a basal cell carcinoma removed in March by a General surgeon in his office. I came out with what my DH called a 'bullet hole' on my back , and it healed nicely...can't even see where it was. So, I'm sure if you are going to a plastic surgeon, it will turn out wonderfully. He said to make sure and let you eye doctor know about it, too. Good luck & keep us posted!

The stupid incision opened up a few days after the stitches were removed though. So I'm still wearing a bandage over it.

Sorry to hear about your dx'd, I don't know anything about it. But I do know a little about scaring. Make sure after the surgery, you keep the sun off of the area. Wear a hat when outside at first, then put sunscreen with vitamin E in it on it EVERY day. (Nutragena has a good one that doesn't smell) This will help it not to scar. My oldest got cracked in the head by a glof club when he was 6, right between the eyes:eek: You can't see it unless your REALLY looking. I hope this helps:D

Thanks for the reassurance. Unfortunately this one appears to be leaving quite a scar. I guess it's because it split open?
