My wife and I grew up in the Springfield area and graduated from U of I in Champaign-Urbana, but alas, we have been exiled to the land of the Buckeyes. ;)
We live in Chicago, about a mile from Wrigley Field. Is there anyone else in the city or near suburbs?

For those of you who live in Illinois. Where do you go for your endo?
For us, we have two choices... either Iowa city or Peoria... or are there more choices... just curious.
Thanks,
Jennifer

We just went for the first time to Dr. Stephen Duck in Skokie, IL. He is associated with Evanston Northwestern Health Care. I was very very impressed with his office and staff -- they are very pro pump and are up to date on all the latest technology. Actually we just saw the CDE for the first visit and will see Dr. Duck in about 2 weeks for a normal clinic visit. Dr. Duck has some amazing reviews online -- was votest the best doctor of the year, stuff like that. So I hope we like him as well in person, but we really loved the CDE and I was very relieved to know we are both on the same page.
Carson had been to the same endo in Michigan for 7 years, we just moved and had to find a new one. So far so good!!

We just started at the endo in Peoria. We liked our visit very much. It is a much easier drive for us in our experience.

we see Dr Hollander in St Louis At Childrens Hospital.

We have been going to Peoria. DS was in DKA when he was admitted and transfered to the St Francis Children's Hospital in Peoria.
I only have positive things to say about our pediatric endocronolist and the staff. They have been wonderful, great, etc... I can not say enough.
At the same time...I have to admit, I find it troubling that we have to drive close to two hours to find a doc. I realize that some of you drive even longer distances. This has been an eye opening experience.
You never realize how many people are affected and how few pediatric endocronologist are out there.
thanks for listenning.

When we lived in Illinois, I live right across for St. Louis MO, in a town called Belleville. But we went to Cardinal Glennon to see Dr. Dempsher, he is in St. Louis. We still travel to see Dr. Dempsher, because all of my daughters specialist are there, Neuro/Muscular dr for the neurophathy issues, and then the GI and GU dr for the paralized colon issues. They will all squeeze us in so we dont have to make all these trips. Its a 450 mile trip for us. In matter of fact, we are leaving tomorrow (Sunday) for an appointment at Cardinal Glennon appointment Monday.

There is a pediatric endo in Rockford, but that's about two hours from you too.
Frankly, I love The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. If we lived in the Quad Cities, that's where I'd go. (I went to the U of Iowa.)

In terms of driving there is not that much different between going to iowa city or peoria.
I do have to say that we have had such an incredible experience in peoria that I would not feel comfortable changing doctors. The nurses and the staff have always taken the time to answer my questions and are very supportive.

I also heard really good things about Dr. Duck (gotta love that name!!).
Elizabeth sees Dr. Kanika Ghai at Lutheran General Hospital. The thing that I like about Dr. Ghai is that she lets us do whatever we want as far as diabetes management and her office has been proactive on getting back to us, prescriptions filled, and when I wanted to do the untethered method, I had no arguments from her. They even got the paperwork done on the pump at lightening speed.
She also squeezed us in for an emergency appointment when I told her nurse I was fed up with the NPH regimen and I wanted to start on Lantus right away. They have been sympathetic.
I guess I like her because she allows us to have the freedom to manage Elizabeth's diabetes care and I feel that she has a very deep respect for us.

I'm glad you're happy with your endo. :) I guess I'm just not 100% sold on ours, and wish there was an option like U of I within an hour drive of us.

Different U of I! I was talking about The University of Iowa. :)
(As an aside, I always think it's strange that the University of Illinois med schools aren't on the main campus, but instead in Chicago and Rockford.)

I live in Chicago. If any of y'all who are accessible by cta/pace want to meet me, we could manage that. I'd be interested in meeting you or your kids. I get along pretty well with younger kids because I have four little brothers.

I got a flier in the mail for the ADA Family Support Network Family Ice Skating Event at Vernon Hills Glacier Ice Area. It's in February. We're planning on going (it's less than 10 minutes from our house). Anyone else? I can post details if anyone's interested.
