Rufus is definately a favorite at our house.
When my daughter was in Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, a friend sent her a teddy bear that she named "CHOA".
At shot time, she loves to cuddle Rufus or CHOA.

Maybe my daughter was a little bitter when she was dx, because she not so affectionately named hers "Rufus the Doofus"......yikes....

I'm not sure Danielle named Rufus (I can't even remember if she got one)...she had sooo many stuffed animals brought to her...names of some of them. Big White Fluffy bear is named "Carbohydrate" and another one she named Starch (I think). Of course, this is the child that when she had her tonsils removed and we got her a hamster, she named it "IV"...as in intraveneous....because she had just had an IV for her surgery.

Mine didnt like Rufus at all in the beginning. She still doesnt play with him much, but she will give him shots....
We destroyed a syringe (took out the needle) and used the Saline that the hospital gave us. She gets to give him his meds when we give her hers... Then she gives him a hug and says what a BIG boy he is and then says that she loves him. Then she puts him down until the next time for meds... lmao

Where do you guys request the bag of hopes.
Someone was asking me recnetly as they had never received one and I did not know where to tell them to go. They did try the local JDRF but were told they did not have any.

You know, I never did call to request one, but at Trevor's school, there's this man (his daughter goes there) that was dxd, like 20 some years ago, and he brought one to us at an after school event. I thought that was so nice of him, and to top it off he is an EMT, so he put our address in their system and the schools and noted that Trevor is type 1 that way if we should ever have to call them, they will be prepared.

I tried looking for one of these in our area and they are none.
We do not have a local JDRF so I have to participate in the next state which is only about 30 minutes away but because we are out of state it is a no go.
Anyone else have these problems???

Allene - if you PM me your address, I can help identify the Chapter that you would fall under. They are organized based on state and region, and you will see a correlation to congressional districts. I don't know if its on purpose or not but I know that as the Capital Chapter, we cover parts of Maryland, all of DC, and parts of VA, but there are other chapters in MD that cover other parts as well as DC.
I have a Govt Relations volunteer role with JDRF, and that's why I think I can find this out for you.

I contacted our chapter here and never heard back. I even sent a message through reps at the JDRF booth at a Diabetes conference in December to say if the chapter is active I'd like to volunteer, receive info...Nothing. It is disappointing, but I'm hoping its just a temporary glitch. I want to start fighting this fight.

I ordered him for Sean, hoping to get him more comfortable about pumping.

We got the Teen Pak from our regional JDRF chapter soon after my daughter was diagnosed last year. I contacted the closest JDRF chapter by email and asked about the Teen Pak, which is like the Bag of Hope, except for older kids. I got a very prompt reply and since our closest chapter was still miles and miles away from us, they sent the Teen Pak by mail.

We got ours from Phoenix Children's Hospital when he was diagnosed. At first he didn't care about Rufus, but I made sure to pay special attention to Rufus. I thought it was a cute idea and eventually he became a favorite and went everywhere with him. Even to school in his back pack. We actually met a family at Costco once that noticed Rufus because they were given one also.

I really am enjoying Rufus. Phoenix slept with him last night and asked about giving him shots. I need to get a syring and break it down so he can do some injections on him
