We will be having our Pre pump assessment on March 11 and the only pump Daniel will consider is the Omnipod - he does not want anything to do with tubing. He is 14 and plays football and very active - just wondered how the teenagers felt about the Pods what are the best places to wear them?, has anyone had a problem with lost or stolen PDM's - I have told Daniel he will have the guard it with his life! From all I have read I think the Omnipod is the best choice for him and it is covered by my insurance so we are well on the way to "podding"

My son is 12,the only place that he will wear the pod is on his belly (so far)
We have not had any problems with misplacing the pdm.You can purchase a backup for $300. We love the Omnipod.

Hi Daniel's Mom! My daughter is on the OmniPod. Like your son, she would not even look at another pump. It was tubeless or stick with shots. All I can say is we think the OmniPod is WONDERFUL!! She plays basketball and is pretty rough. And the pod has worked great for her.

Right now she is wearing it on her upper bum. She wears Under Armour under her uniform and that with a little extra adhesive (Skin Tac or Mastisol) she's has no sticking problems. I was a little worried about it getting bumped when she was boxing out, but no problems.

Once during the summer, she was wearing the pod on her arm and was playing touch football. It did get accidentally pulled off then. But it wasn't the best placement for that time of the year anyhow.

So far no lost or stolen PDM. Honestly, that's just not an option. She has to keep an eye on it. That's just the way it is. Insulet will sell you a back up for $300, but we didn't take that option.

If you have any other questions, just post or feel free to PM me. We truly love it.

I am 16, and I am on the OmniPod, and my favorite place to wear the pod is on my lower back, because it's out of the way, and most of the time I forget that it's even there. I also wear it on my thigh sometimes, as well as my upper arms. I have not had a problem with losing my PDM or anything. I think your son will be fine with it. Has he tried it out yet? If you have any questions, and want answers from a teens prospective, I would be happy to help. :D

My son started on the Omnipod last Monday, so far everything is going well. He plays basketball everyday and has had no problem with it not sticking or getting knocked. The temp basal rate he sets for practice and games is fantastic. He wears it on his stomach, he has not tried any other spots yet. We plan to buy the back up PDM soon. The school nurse has a Novolog pen in case of emergencies and he carries a pen with him if he has away games. This was the only pump he considered, he was on MDI for 14 months. Hope this helps, good luck with the transition. You may want to wear a pod too w/saline just so you get an idea of how it feels, I did for 2 days and forgot I even had it on.
