View Full Version : Ugh, new insurance and test strips

Ok, I haven't even called yet, but I'm nervous thinking about it after the huge hassle we had last year getting more test strips. Though in that case it wasn't our insurance giving us the trouble so much as the DME provider. But our old insurance was great. Now that insurance was bought out by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and I have no idea how they are going to be to deal with. We have the exact same (great!) coverage, but that doesn't mean they won't try to fight things.

I was worried about calling to place our monthly order for strips and lancets knowing that this could happen. And of course the DME supplier says even though Lia's prescription is written for 10 times a day, we need to contact BCBS and get in writing that they will cover it. Otherwise it's 200 per month. Sure 200 a month for a 7yr old on a pump in gymnastics, gym class, in school with all those germs that cause illness.....

Trying to keep calm so I can call and speak to someone.

Well this is one of those cases where I worried for nothing (I'm a worrier and sometimes it is for nothing).

The DME supplier just called me back and said she was putting in the order and it came up that with the division of Blue Cross that our policy is through that they do not need an override for more than 200 strips a month. So we will go on getting as many as we have no problem.

Very good Laurie. I think if I had to fight the supplier to give me what my endo prescribed and the insurance said they would cover, I would have to find another supplier. What does it matter to them how many you get if the insurance pays for it?
