I was just wondering how many T1s test pos. for the antibodies. My son has tested negative.

We are participating in the TrialNet study, so we will find out if any of the rest of us test positive.

Kat was the only one who tested pos thru trialnet. no one else, not even me or ray have it. i guess that means we are just silent carriers.

I'm not T1, and I tested positive for anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) which can mean a large number of things. Original thought was Lupus, more realistic thought is Arthritis. I went back 6 months late and tested negative. Which is common too.

Never had my son tested that I know of.

Sorry if that's not helpful.

Westin was never tested at diagnosis. The rest of the family was tested through Trial Net and were all negative.

I was tested at diagnosis and had very very high levels of ICA 512 antibody(over 50 times the upper limit of normal) and high levels of GAD 65 antibody (about 4 times the upper limit of normal).
The two of my brothers who were tested are negative.

Im not to sure if Emma has them but I would thing that she dose and the only other child in our house hold that we had tested was our now 18 month old son who did test ++ and he is part of the triger study. Because he was positive we have opted not to have the other 4 children tested

I had very very high levels of the 3 of the 4 antibodies that TrialNet uses to test. Then developed D 2 years after being in the Trial Net study.

I have no idea if my son or my mom have them -- I would assume they do since I do and we all 3 have D.

I believe Dana was confirmed to have antibodies when diagnosed, but that day was just a blur...
Antibody...what's an antibody??

Anyway, the poll is very cool.
I think we can gather all sorts of "real" life data for loads of things (I'm somewhat of data nut :o).

How do you set a poll like this up??

To do a poll, just start a new thread, but before hitting submit, check the box at the bottom that says you want to do a poll. After clicking submit, it gives you the opportunity to fill out the question and answer options.

An ANA test in 2001 uncovered my Lupus, which went undetected for 20 yrs thanks to ever changing hormones and doctors who would never listen or believe me. Life is great with medication that keeps flare ups away. :) I kept going to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack. The doctor (for 20 yrs) would say "well, you dont have mitral valve prolapse, but your valve is swollen but your perfectly healthy so i dont know why, take aspirin." Turns out all it was, was every time I had a Lupus flare up, my heart valave (in some cases valves) would swell causing "backwash". Once my finger from the top knuckle to my nail swelled up like i had some weird ogre finger (hahahaha) and once my face on one side swelled up like a pumpkin. Now, I get none of that, correct dx is so refreshing. Ways to avoid Lupus flare ups: Avoid direct sunlight, wear long sleeves, hats, jeans, UV protection, no sandals. Avoid extreme cold, wear a coat, gloves, hat, scarf, common sense things. Dont get the flu, lol. Wash hands and use germ-x. Take meds and get regular check ups with your internal medicine doc or rheumatologist. I have an IM thru Tricare. The only problems I've had with flare ups in the last 2 yrs have been kidney swelling, ureter swelling, surgery corrected that. OK so this was very much OT but maybe it will help someone. Lupus is an auto-immune deficiency based disease just like D is, and usually it rides piggy back like Celiac sometimes does. I'm not T1, borderline T2 like my grandma was who we suspect also had undx'ed Lupus (back in her day doctors didnt think to put Lupus and women in one sentence).
