With our Flipping school NURSE!! yes this is YET another school nurse RANT!

On Weds, The nurse calls me up. They are having a Jr High basketball game and the school is going to watch. I sent DD with money to buy some special treats at the game. The nurse calls me and says:
" Hi, Rania this is M. Kalissa and her teacher want to know what she can have at the basketball game?"

I reply : "What do they have?"
She says : " I don't know?"
and i say laughing "well that really helps me"
and she says " i will have to call you back " as hatefull as she can and hangs up on me!

OK, this lady has been wareing on my nerves anyway. But hanging up on me was pushing it. She calls me back about 10mins later, out of breathe and tells me that she went over to the gym and kalissa wants skittles and pop corn. I tell her what amount of insulin to bolus and everyone is happy.

OK now we make it to yesterday. Kalissa woke up at 245. OK i correct her. She has done this before, no biggy.. i send her to school.

When she gets home i download her pump into my super awesome spreadsheet that twodoors was so nice to share with me. I start to notice she ran HIGH ALL day.

9am 349 NO CORRECTION was GIVEN!!!!
11am 325 Lunch pump did the math and gave correction
12:45 pm 259 coming down a little
2pm 271 snack time, and again pump gave correction
5pm 308!

When i relized there was a problem i tested for ketones (only .01 we have never had ketones thank god since DX), and removed the old site and gave a shot at dinner. after dinner i put in a new site and all was well.. well almost, 2 hours after dinner she dropped to 53. Then before i went to bed i tested her and she rebounded from the low and was 408! Good god i hate D!

Anyhow, am i over reacting here? she NEVER bothered to call and let me know there might be a problem. For some reason she thinks i can tell there is a problem when im 45 mins away. I guess she thinks i am connected with my DD in a 6th sence type of way  . ugh:mad:

I don't know how else you could have responded to the nurse when she was asking about the snacks, carbs, and you're not there! On top of that, your 45 minutes away.
I wouldn't be too happy about the way you disconnected in this situation, was she just in a hurry?
I'm wondering if she didn't call you (with high b/s) because of the situation that happened- unless I'm getting the turn of events mixed up?

Ok, I know way OT, but you were able to download the pump info directly into a spreadsheet?

All I can do is give you BIG CYBER hugs!!!!!! I personally dont think you are over reacting, she should have called with the high bs's and let you know. Maybe your DD was high due to excitment, size of skittles, or the popcorn.. who knows BUT there should have been a phone call period!!!

I am having horrible problems with our school nurse so I feel for you. I hope she was just in a hurry (NOT an excuse!!) and not just being plain down right RUDE!!!

I just want to jump in with something a little off topic:
I've noticed that whenever we do a site change because Jacob's BG is not responding right to corrections or bolus', that he drops low soon after the site change. I have a theory that the insulin is "pooled up" at the old site and is kind of stuck there like a clogged drain. Once that old site is pulled the drain is unclogged and all that insulin is released. In fact it seems like that HAS TO HAPPEN. We know the insulin left the pump (unless he's getting air), and we're pretty sure it entered his body, so why isn't it doing anything?
Because it's waiting. Waiting to suddenly be released into his system when we least expect it.

You know, I kinda thought that at first. But after she called me at lunch and was super rude i decided to go to the school and talk to her.

She is very upset this happened. I guess she must have been busyer the usual, and a little overwelemed. She claims she just "let it slip past her" and she is "only human". I was being very nice and told her i understood that, but please use the guidelines that i have in place for Kalissa. Then she started to get hatefull and standoffish and said "Well there are other children in this school besides kalissa" That was it! I told her that a D trumps a snotty nose any day, and if she didn't think she could handle my DD's care then maybe we needed to find someone else who can! It got ugly, but i won't got into great detail. She was NONE to happy when i told her, if she has a problem with me, she better keep it with me and NOT Kalissa.

I have never really had a major problem with this nurse. She seems pretty dry compared to me. I talked to the principle, and told him if she (nurse) can't handle kalissa's care then we need to look at something else. I dont know what is going to happen at this point.

No, you have to manually enter the numbers. It really is pretty easy! I am the WORST at keeping logs so this is working for me. If i do it everyday then i am doing good LOL

Thank you for the hugs, after the run in i had with her this afternoon i need them LOL

We ran high the day after the ball game. I'm pretty sure her site went bad on us. We had used an inset. When i did a change i put in a Rapid D. All the more reason why we should use a steel cannula! But kalissa just loves the colors of the insets.

I will send you some (((HUGS))) right back. I hope you get your issues taken care of with your nurse.
