I was excited when I saw that MiniMed was offering the shorter silhouttes. Problem is they shortened the cannula but not the needle. I think this difference is allowing blood to seep back and block the cannula.

My daughter has had 3 sites go bad in 5 days. Her numbers were great last night. She had dinner, played in the hot tub, took her bath, reconnected. Her BG was 146 she had a snack and some milk at 9:15 and went to bed. I debated about checking her at 10:30 when I went to bed but decided I should. She was 352! WHAT? So I bolused her and got up to check her at 11:30. She was 409! NOT ANOTHER BAD SITE!! So I gave her an injection in her arm and she moved so I didn't know how much insulin she got. I decided she probably didn't get very much and gave her another shot in her butt. Applied the EMLA and waited 40 minutes.

At 12:15 I check her again and she's 244 (after less than an hour - OH NO). This is where it gets good. My daughter has a mid height bunk bed so I'm on a step stool leaning over to change her site. As I'm prepping the site she's trying to roll over on her rear. I finally get her so I can reach her and get the site changed. She did stay asleep - but picture me on the step stool with a flashlight trying to change her site! ::eek: Now I give her some milk so she won't go too low. Get up again at 2:00 and shes 272. Bolus again!

Yeah I finally get to go to bed but know I can't sleep. I dozed a bit until the alarm went off at 5:30 so I can get ready for work. I called MiniMed and explained the problem and they are exchanging my unopen boxes for the regular length silhouttes. I can't take any more failed sites.

Adding to the stress is that I'm scheduled for surgery next week and will be in the hospital for 3 days and on disability for at least 4 weeks. My husband hasn't changed a site yet either.

I'm exhausted and still not able to unwind from last nights misadventure. I hope you all have a better day than mine. Sorry to ramble but I needed to vent to some people who would understand. It's nice to know I'm not alone. :p

Sorry to hear about this. My 15 mon old was just dxd so we're not on the pump yet. My hubby has a pump (had type 1 for 39 yrs) and had a few issues by Medtronic was great at exchanging the items. Your post will probably by helpful to many others!
