My Emma has been fully day time trained for about 3 months but we are not even close to night time traning she wakes up every monring almost peed through or peed through so bad that her bed is soaked! I dont know what to do I get her up every night to pee at about 11 - 12 but she is even wet at the time and I change her and put her back to bed. Im just wondering if anyone else has issues with night time bed wetting/traning because of D or is this just Emma taking control as they say thats one thing that your child can control. And any sugestions? Im willing to try anything at this point!

Thanks

Westin sleeps hard, and I don't know how relevant this is, but even at 10, if his sugar spikes at night, he wakes up wet. (thankfully with cgms that doesn't happen much anymore) We would put a goodnight on him if his bs looked funny before bed just to save on the headache.

I am sure others have suggestions. I know we potty trained after the D dx but it was so long ago, I really can't recall.

Griffin was 18 months at dx and I was worried about D issues affecting potty training, but it really wasn't a factor. It is very rare, even when he is running high, for him to wet the bed. I would say he does not wet the bed any more than your average 4 yo boy.

Hi Shawna!

Congratulations on your little Aydan:D

Just for sanity's sake I kept Ella in a pull-up until she was on a pattern of waking up dry. Just like YDMV.....potty training may vary! I was for sure thinking she would be walking down the aisle not potty trained:o. Slowly but surely she started staying dry at night. Goodluck!

Emma is 3 and I didnt have a problem training my now 5 year old she was day and night trained all at the same time before she was 2 but Emma is a whole new ball game! Mind you she has a mind all of her own and if she doesnt want to do something she wont! We had to pay her 1$ for every poop on the potty lol because she wanted nothing to do with it!

Shawna, same with Ella's brother.....he was trained all within a week including naps and nights. Then little Miss Ella who took her sweet time in being trained. It is nerve wracking having such a different potty training experiance than our oldest that is for sure.

We are having the same issues and ask the same questions of Owen at 3 1/2 so you are definetly not alone.

ross was potty trained by 3 also - we didn't even bother trying to do nighttime training. he still goes to bed with an overnight diaper on. and he still wakes up with them wet. one night we forgot to put the diape ron and he woke up crying cause he had to pee. i just want him to get the rest right now, not worry about getting up every couple of hours to pee. when he is ready to learn that part, he will.

We have the same scenario with Simon. He has been day time potty trained since he was 2. Night time is a whole different story! He wears those night time pull ups to bed & still soaks through them sometimes. I am not sure if it is D related or not. I know some of the boys in his preschool class are still wearing them at night too. Sometimes when he is napping & in a really deep sleep he will pee then too.

Jess is 6 and she still sleeps in a goodnight pull up.. If her bg is good all night she will wake up dry, but if she gets over 200 she is wet, sometimes soaked depnding on how long and how high she was.

i asked our endo about this in dec, and she said it is common.

I've read in a few sources that there's really no such thing as nighttime "potty training." That is to say, beyond limiting fluids after a certain time at night, and getting them to go potty before they go to bed, there's not much you can do about it. Some kids acquire the ability to hold it while they sleep quite early on (or to wake up and go on the potty), and some kids don't. I don't think it's at all uncommon to read of kindergartners or even older kids who still wear pull-ups at night.

My son, who is almost 4, is potty trained at night, and pees on the potty during the day, but refuses to poop on the potty. I've told him on his 4th birthday that the diapers go away because they don't make diapers for 4 year olds! We'll see how that goes!

Thats to funny Emma would have nothing to do with pooping on the potty untill my father in law told her that he would give her money everytime she went and since then she has made him go broke!

Scott was very easy to potty train during the day. Nights we found depended entirely on bgs. If he was high, he was wet, even with us getting him up during the night. We could not guarantee he would be dry all night, every night, until he was almost 12 years old. Interestingly he has always been a very deep sleeper and has always needed far more sleep than his brother. We also raised the bed wetting with his doctor on more than one occasion. She was never worried that he was wetting the bed, as she said it is common, she was more interested in the bgs to help us so that it didnt happen

Both Hailey and Mackenzie wore Goodnights until this last summer. Mackenzie still wets even though iwake her at midnight and 3 am to go, we bought some bed pads for her bed since goodnights are too tight now. Hailey stopped shortly after dx. Hailey went to a urologist for about 2 years when she was in 1st and 2nd grade, they ran alot of tramatic tests and never did figure out what was wrong with her. I will not put Mackenzie through those tests now that I know it was probably her long onset of D.
