Kaylee's Mommy

I'm getting so frustrated.. we started pre-bolusing along with extended bolusing a few days ago.. the first day things were terrific.. but so far today and the two other days things have gone haywire.. Kaylee woke up at 72.. I gave her 1/2 a juice box.. let that start to work, pre-bolused her 15 carbs, she had applesauce, then wanted a yogurt, so I dual waved with 60% upfront the remaining 6 for the applesauce and the 17 for the yogurt.. she was headed up fast.. because of the juice.. and is now 330:eek: Last night we had an aweful night.. she was high, stubborn high and wouldn't come down.. finally started too.. also pre-bolused and got up into the 300s again.. lunch same thing.. didn't get to the 300s but did go high.. Last night we went out to dinner.. I pre-bolused before we left since it is only about 10/15minutes away.. she was low (two arrows down on the sensor in the 70s.. BAD... ) so I gave her juice while waiting.. I didn't let her drink to much and then when she was mostly done dinner (FF and chicken tenders) I dual waved the rest, with 60% upfront.. ) I do an extended bolus for 3 hours.. but no matter what she spikes and then crashes.. so I'm not sure what to change anymore.. I want to stop those 300 spikes, and stop the crashes..I don't dare prebolus more than 15minutes.. and doing the extended bolus for more than 3hours is a problem, we run into her next meal..

ever sense we started the pre-bolusing it seems that she spikes and crashes harder (except the first day was really nice..)

It sounds like perhaps she needs more up front (to reduce the spike) and less extended (to help reduce the crashes later on)? Maybe something like 80/20, or a shorter extension time (1 1/2 or 2 hours) that way she'd get more insulin up front. If it were me, I'd "trade" part of the extended insulin with the up front insulin until I got the numbers that I wanted. Switching something like a .10 of a unit (or a percentage-trying 65/35, then 70/30, etc.) from one to give to the other for a few days until something worked.

Good luck!
