My daughter spikes from greasy fast food. I'm starting to try dual waves to help with the delay of blood sugar rise.
She was high going into the meal at a 296 (thanks to pretzels at daycare:()
She ate a homemade pasta casserole (pasta sends her low) with Potato Ole's from a fast food place called Taco Johns.
Potato Ole's are circular tater tots deep fat fried with seasoning on them (quite delicious).
The carbs on the Potato Ole's were 24 carbs for 2 1/2 ounces. Another words a unit of insulin for Abby's carb ratio.
I bolused the correction and pasta up front and did the unit for the Potato Ole's over 4 hours.
These are the results, and I'm curious what changes you'd make...
1 hr after eating 312 -Considering she was a 296 when she started, I didn't think this was a terrible first number.
2 hr after eating 273
2 1/2 hr after eating 198
3 hr after eating 169

I think you did pretty good.. I would have included the past in the extended bolus because it works better for Kaylee.. but if it makes Abby go low then the way you did it works pretty good.. actually looking at her numbers she could have used MORE upfront because of the spike.. and less at the end (this is where a dual-wave would come in very handy!!)

great job!

Now that 3 hour number was 169 and the bolus was still dosing, right. So, she still had an hour to receive a dose AND then the effectiveness of the insulin, right?

I guess with a reading of 169 with the bolus still running, I'd be worried about a low.

My son uses the dual wave for fatty foods. He uses the bolus wizard and the percentage split it recommends over 3 hours. The three hours is what the diabetic nurse suggested and this seems to work for us. Last night my son had pasta and he did a dual wave. I do not have him do the dual wave for pasta but I wasn't home at the time. He did go low (62) and ended up cancelling the rest of the dual wave.
