Did a site change tonight and am concerned because ds6's old site is a little red and puffy. I already put some prescription antibiotic cream on it, but my question is has anyone had a mildly red site that was NOT an infected site??? The red area is much smaller than a dime--maybe half the size. We had a site infection a few months ago, and I am terrified to go through that again!

we have had some that were red and looked like it was gonna be an infected site.. we kept neosporin on it at night, thinking we would be called the dr in the morning.

Take a pen and mark around the red area, so you can see if it is growing or shrinking. . If it gets worse overnight, call the dr in the morning

So some of yours did turn out to be ok? Please give me hope!

I attempted to mark around the site, but the Sharpie rubbed off because of all the antibacterial ointment. I've put it on about three times in the last thirty minutes! Oh, man, it's nights like this when I wish I drank. Now I'll be up all night looking at the site with a flash light. If I remember correctly from the last one, the infected area grew pretty rapidly, so I should be able to tell in a few hours, shouldn't I??? And of course, to top it all off, I have about fifteen other moms coming to my house a little after 8am tomorrow and staying until school is out to work on a huge project! I'm just gonna go cry.

We've had the skin be similiar to what you've decribed. We wash it with anti-bacterial wash (first aid stuff), then put some neo-sporin on. Definitely by the morning you can see that it's on it's way to healing. Some sites are just a little more sensitive than others.

Yes they turned out fine.. we have had more then 1 in the past 5 yrs, but only 1 infection and that was when she stayed at my parents for a week in the summer.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding  but a good 1/2 of the sites we remove look "angry" at first. Maddie uses the inset which has a plastic shield that tends to leave sort of an indentation where the site was. It never stays angry for long - just antiseptic wash and a bit of ointment and we have never had an infection. Hope that's all it is;)

REVISION Ok maybe only1/4 but still very common here and to date no problem - hope you don't need the flashlight :-)

sometimes when I pull a site it looks questionable.. they typically look 100% better within an hour and certainly by the next day.. we had a site infection 2 weeks ago.. that one didn't look better by morning.. it formed a 'zit' at the top.. it was hard, and Kaylee said it hurt..

If it looks different, just watch it.
If you see any signs of infection, redness , pain to touch, hard, swelling, hot to touch, accompanied by fever... then call the doc. :cwds:
