Back on Monday, Dexcom announced a non-exclusive partnership with Insulet (the Omnipod people). "non-exclusive" means that the Omnipod guys can still go ahead with Navigator, if it's EVER approved, but they're also gonna work with Dexcom in case that never happens. (Or theoretically, in case Navigator turns out to "kinda suck"... but most reviewers give it rave reviews, I think it won't suck at all:).
This morning, a similar press release was made for Animas. Now, in addition to the obvious advantage of being way more convenient (you carry only one thing, instead of two), matching up with these pumps has two more BIG advantages you maight not have thought of:
The rechargeable battery in the Dexcom Receiver eventually wears out, (I'll SWAG 2-3 years), and you have to replace the whole thing for $$$$ (currently $550).
The Dexcom Receiver is absolutely, totally *NOT* water resistant in the slightest. Many people, including me, have had expensive accidents requiring replacement. (I bought an entire new kit for $450, totally out of pocket. DW drowned it in a puddle of Soda Pop). In contrast, both of these pumps are highly waterproof.
