How many of you have said good-bye to your college kids and are finding the house once again too empty? I always have found the good-byes after Christmas harder than the ones in August for some reason :(

Now we can look forward to a random weekend visit and Spring Break.

I still have a daughter home - in her senior year...but it is hard when my son goes back to school. It seems the winter break flew by, and we had so many wonderful conversations. I got choked up a bit telling him how much I love and admire him, how he's growing up to be such a nice adult, and how hard it is for a mom to let go. I think he heard 1/10 of it ;).

My two older sons both live in town with their partners -- and it's lovely to have them close, but they both have strange work schedules and we almost never get everyone altogether at once.

And I did have a bit of a pity party over Christmas because we only saw my middle guy (only 19, in first year uni) for 2 days. He has a part-time job in retail and was booked solid through Boxing week. And I was thinking, "if he was at school out of town, he'd be home for 2 weeks, having a nice break and hanging out with us!"

I'm glad Aaron's still at home...

Oh I cried driving away from my son's house on campus last Wednesday. The diabetes issue sure throws a twist into the situation for me.

my husband took my son back, he's done all the drop offs and pick ups this year for some reason. we still have issues with the saying goodbye. i suppose it's a good thing; i mean at least he isn't walking off, flipping me the bird and mumbling obscenties under his breath.

i saw one kid at drop off last year proclaiming his happiness that his mother was finally gone and out of his face for a while....so, i suppose there's this extreme which would completely stink!

OSUMom -- i guess we'll have no idea what it's like to take D out of the equation as far as separation goes; we know no other way. my husband said it really got to him to watch our son unpack and put away all his pump supplies, insulin to the fridge, sugars in their pouches...he said it's done so methodically, so routinely, just like lining his books up on his desk.

i believe our "relationship" is quite different than a non-D mother/son due to the long-standing D issue between us, we've built up such a trust between us, we've been thru soooo much with this disease, i can't help it think it has forever bonded us in a way i'll never know with my other kid (that's both good and bad).

sigh. i'm rambling. again. :(

Susan I'm leaving for Columbus right now - need to take tests strips and other expensive item I don't want to mail in case they got lost in the mail. I'll give my guy a hug in honor of all the moms with their kids in college....

Ramble on... please... :cwds:

Patty and Susan, I hugged him for you all - even if it was awkward in the car as he ran off for his 12:30 class! :(

That expensive item is a pair of $300 orthotics for his shoes which over a period of many months have been back and forth from the podiatrist office to shave down so they fit right or should I say "better". All I could picture is those being lost in the mail and having to start that process all over. haha!

He needs the orthotics for his running shoes to chase after the UPS truck when next time I have to ship his test strips!!! :D
