I just wanted to share that Precision Xtra has new blood ketone strips that require 75% less blood and only take 10 seconds. (This was mentioned on a thread earlier this week.) I had to have my pharmacist special order them, but they are great!!!
I used one yesterday and it is SOOO much better and easier than the old design! I highly recommend that you ask about them the next time you refill your Rx.
They work with the same meter, and the order number is 70745-35. There are 10 in a box, (it seems like it was 8 before, is that right???).

Oh, I also wanted to mention great glucose gel I found. CVS brand, (other pharmacies probably carry it too) glucose gel. It is in a clear measured squeeze tube, so you can give 5, 10, or 15 grams of fast acting sugar. This is great for us because Emma is too little for the tablets, and with cake gel we never know how much we've used. She usually only needs 5 or 10g at a time. It comes 3 tubes in a pack for around $11.

My pharmacy told me that these strips are on back order until the end of the month. The manufacturer can't meet the demand. I can't believe it took them so long to improve the strips. I can't wait to get ours:) It took me 3 strips to get a reading today.

thanks for the info amy! riley is just a little bit younger than emma (19 months) so she can't use the glucose tablets either. we haven't had to use the cake gel yet, but i was wondering if we did how to know how much she got. i'll definitely go get some of the gel you mentioned!
also, thanks for posting about the immunizations earlier this week. riley got 2 shots on tuesday so after reading your post i was prepared for her sugar to be out of whack. it was a little high, but not too bad. thanks!

I called Abbott just a few days ago to ask if the new strips would fit into the old meter and they told me yes. Both types of strips will fit into both of their meters. They have a new Precision Xtra meter out as well as the new strips. The old strips come in boxes of 8 and the new ones are a box of 10.

They offered to send me a free new updated version of the Precision Xtra meter by the way. So if you have the old meter you might want to call and see if they'll send you one too. I just wish they'd send me some strips to go with it - heh!:p I end up mail ordering the darn things.

We had to use our meter just last week- and I hate how long it takes...I sent the info on to my DH (who is home with our kids.)
