Hey everyone, I was wondering if any of you had any experience snowboarding or skiing with a pump. I have always found in the past (when I was on MDI) that I tend to run high when out on the hill. I was curious what happens to others. Usually being active brings me down, but not snowboarding. I've been doing it for 13 odd years now and since I was diagnosed I have had the same affect. I have to INCREASE my insulin rather than decrease. Also where do you keep your pump so it doesn't freeze?

i wear my pump for snowboarding and skiing never had it freeze i wear long underwear and attach it to that keeping it close to cody prevents it from freezing and keeping it on long underwear keeps tubing from getting caught on anything i also go high and increase basal for this activity hope you have frun snowboarbing

My son went snowboarding over holiday college break twice. First time on shots. He said he went low with shots - second trip with his pump. He was okay pumping, but he did remove the pump while snowboarding. He put his pump in a locker at the facility. He finished up with a BG of 200. Both times he was there from sun up to sun down - long day. I'm sure he bolused when he ate a meal.

Sounds like for everyone it's different.

We just returned from skiing and my type 1 15yr old had pretty high numbers despite heavy skiing for 5 hours each day, for 4 days. They are still out of whack. Anyone else experience this?

I have both gone skiing and snowboarding with my pump, I tend to also run high when I am out on the mountain. I tend to increase my basel rates to 120% just to not run high the entire time. I also just keep my pump in the pocket of my pants.

Yep, done both. I just throw pump, meter, and fruit snacks all in pockets. I test a lot. I use a low temp rate.

I like the fact that I can just increase my basal with a pump, so much easier. I'll be trying a temp basal for the first time and just make sure I test often. I fractured my back skydiving this summer so I won't be going too crazy, but I'll do what my body allows. Thanks for all the experiences. It's nice to see I'm not alone with the high numbers.:D
