Jesse woke up yesterday morning with a virus. He throw up several times yesterday, and a few times last night. His B/G was running on the low side.He could not keep anything down,We checked for keytones yesterday morning, and they were neg. Later in the day they were moderate,we finally got him to drink some regular soda last night. He has not throw up since late last night, but he still does not want to eat,but is drinking a little water, and soda. Ketones are still moderate.

He needs insulin to help get rid of the ketones.

Since the only thing he will consume with carbohydrates is soda, I would get him to drink as much soda a possible and give some insulin.

Also, for future vomit fests, ask your endo to prescribe anti-nausea meds...

Hi JDR -
I posted this remedy in another thread.
Give your son this - Mix 1 capful of hydrogen peroxide in a glass with 5 capfuls water. Have him drink it. Yes, drink it. It will knock out a stomach virus in about 1 minute. You may need to repeat in a few hours. Worked like a champ for my daughter and my sister's daughter.

Let me know..!

Good luck.
Ed

I see this situation differently. We've heard BG is on the low side, and that he's been throwing up. In essence, the body is starving and burning fat for energy (thus the ketones).

In this situation, he needs CARBS to get rid of the ketones. I would hesitate to give insulin with the carbs, because if he throws up again then you've got new insulin working and no carbs - which is a recipe for a low..

We did see this yesterday when he eat lunch, and then threw it up 1.5 hours later. The next thing you know he tested and was 43. The good news is he is feeling much better now,and ketones are down to trace. Thanks for all the replies
