I know this is a trivial question compared to everything else, but I'm curious what Medical ID bracelets your child wears. I've been looking around but I'm not sure which one is the best one to get him. I want it to be comfortable and not too noticeable by the other kids. I also want it to be sturdy and not fall off or break too easily. Any ideas?

Hailey only wears the ones from http://simaenterprises.com Scroll down and make sure you pick Medical ID. She never takes it off and they wear awsome! She was always breaking her metal bracelets and honestly they were uncomfortable. She wears the ones in the links in sporting events and everything. She has a few metal pretty ones that she saves for special occasions.
My daughter has a metal allergy, so we have to use sports bands - which she loves anyway!

They are quick, pretty cheap, and ours has lasted 2 years (she has others, but prefers her blue sportsband from here)
And it is a VERY important question - one I myself asked two years ago on Saturday!

We got ours here http://www.fiddledeeids.com/index.php. We also made extra bracelets so Christian can change them when he wants to. We made some with colors from his favorite college football team and he wears that through football season. We made one with metal beads and with wood beads.

I ended up getting the camoflauge bracelet from simaenterprises.com, he helped pick it out and liked that one best. Although he really wanted one of the solid gold ones from medicalert.org but I'm not spending $700+ on a bracelet lol.

This one was cheap and shipping was free, I ended up spending $15.20 for the bracelet, a fine tip marker and 6 id labels. Thanks for all the suggestions :)

Ryan has one from Sticky J. It's the ONLY one in 6 months he actually has kept on and not lost or refuses to wear.

We do Medic Alert. I like that you can customize the medical record so that a thorough description of medical condition and meds can be given to the ER or paramedics. We also use the silicone bracelets over at coolmedid.com

We use a necklace from Beaded Daisy. They have some really neat designs and the owner has two kids with T1D.

We engraved ours with "Diabetic. Give sugar." When she's older, we'll also provide a contact number, but right now, there is always someone with ID with her.

My son got a basic stainless steel bracelet from stickyj.com. I encouraged him to get one of those like Gavin picked out but he just wanted a boring one, lol.
I ended up getting the camoflauge bracelet from simaenterprises.com, http://simaenterprises.com/Medical%20ID%20-%20camo%20group.jpg
Cool bracelet! I might get a spare one for Nick. He's been wanting a camo one. We got ours at www.fifty50.com It a screen printed "Diabetes" and the EMS medical alert symbol on a gecko neoprene band. It's great! He wears it on his ankle (wrists are too small). Very good quality for the price.:)

I have looked at all of them too - my son has a plain necklace from the drug store has "diabetic"engraved- he has lost it twice but it somehow has turned back up - he says he hates wearing any of them and no since in spending extra money- When he starts driving he will have to have one with more info. He does also carry a card in his wallet.

My son is 7 years old - I tried many different style bracelets but they all bugged him. He fiddled with them or took them off, left them at school or daycare. I ended up with a necklace or tag style alert which is permanently knotted around his neck now.

As some of you faithful readers know, I am a parent of a 2 year old that is newly diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes. When we left the hospital, I saw some brochures about the Medical ID bracelets and I panicked! That was something that I had never thought of to be honest.
I looked at the sites from the brochures and thought "poop" (in a not so nice way), as they were for adults and not toddlers :(
I saw this post a bit back and LOVE some of the bracelets..... My only problem now is to see which kind to get. A part of me thinks that if I get a pretty one, then she will want to wear it more, but as she is almost 3, will it be sturdy enough for her? Decisions, decisions... Perhaps I will get her big sister one as well (non medical), identical that they can wear....

We love the ones at medicalert.org they are VERY sturdy. You can get plain silver, or pick a color for the writing. It also has a number to call for even more info. Seth loves his so much, he feels weird without it.
This is just my opinion, but, yu might not want to hide your son's diabetes from anyone, especially the kids at school who are on the playground with him. You might want to go to his class and explain D, including how it's not contagous. They are your best allys if something goes wrong, I would even have his test in front of them during your talk so the mystery is gone. My son has never been teased and I think it's because of the "D chat" His take their clues from us, so if you go somewhere private to give shots like at restraunts, he may feel he has something to hide...Just my opinion.

I agree with Heather on making sure the other kids do know. If they do not know what diabetes is and they cannot catch it you *may* be opening him up to teasing. If the kids do not know they tend to speculate.
As for the ID's we really like the ones we got at http://simaenterprises.com because they are adjustable and come in very small to large sizes, also as your treatments change you do not have to get a new bracelet, you just change the insert info. FYI ALWAYS make sure you meet your local ambulance service and show them what type of ID you chose. Most ambulance services have only seen the VERY basic ID's and mistake anything else as jewelry.

Does anyone else feel that the more "decorative" medical bracelets or jewelry, while extremely cute and fasionable, may go unnoticed by medical professionals or the general public? For the longest time, there were only the standard stainless steel ones with the traditional oval medallion. Everyone knows and recognizes that type of jewelry as "special medical condition" alert. It has been the standard for so long that it concerns me that if Grace were ever in need of help in a place with strangers, others may overlook her decorative alert jewelry as just another fashion accessory. It is my thought that if Grace cannot help herself, I don't want to make it any more difficult for others to know how to help her. It's a pretty safe bet that anyone would recognize her "boring" stainless steel bracelet as the means to properly help her. Just a thought.
