View Full Version : Wii and MM pump
I was just reading the thread about the Wii and adjusting insulin for the workout it provides. It reminded me of a class I went to last summer for extra pump training. Somehow the conversation turned to video games and the guy leading the class mentioned that if you have a MM pump then you have to be careful with the Wii because of the risk of getting interference with your pump.
I can't remember exactly what he said but it had to do with the way the pump and meter speak to each other and that if the pump, controller thing on your arm, and the console got in line with each other then your pump could go haywire.
Have any of you who use the MM pump heard this?

omg NO!!!!
I will be calling mm.
I called MM. They said if you use the wireless feature w/ the CGM. That would be where the problem would be.

I've played Wii with my MM pump (no CGMS) without any problems.
I'm glad it isn't a big deal. I couldn't remember all of the details. We don't have a Wii or a MM pump.

OK--What did minimed say the probelm would be? I think I might should call them. Adyson uses a CGM with her minimed and plays with her wii. We haven't noticed anything but she has been really high the past few days. We have attributed the highs to crazy schedules, crazy food, and her crazy age-(121/2).

Oh great :( I would be interested in know what type of problem it could cause! Hailey has her cgms and wears her pump around her back so she doesn't bang into it when it is on her front/side.

So I think I'd try to get more info on the frequency that the pump and meter, or CGMS use to talk to each other.
Then I'd call Nintendo, check out the cordless phone, and any other device to make sure that you can be safe. I am not sure if it would just alarm the pump, or if it would shut down, or pump out more, or what, but that is something I'd like to know if it were me.

The only way it would interfere is if you are using sensor feature. You could get a weak signal from the sensor. This has nothing to due with actual pumping of insulin. The calls that the MM rep has received... it has not interferred with the sensor. They do tell you this because it's a radio refequency and could be possible. I spoke with Lawrence from the 24 hour helpline.
