Ok earlier today, we got to do fun stuff.. movie then to the JDRF office to pick up a bag of hope to drop off to a new family in the area, And JDRF gave charlize her own bag of hope since she never got one in the past.. That went great, infact they even had charlize autograph her picture in the newsletter ( how cute ).. SO ITs all what happened after that... SO we live in phoenix Arizona ( for those of you in other countrys its HOT HERE= its the Desert)... OK so Right befor we got to JDRF my 2005 minivan's ariconditioner got really cold..... Then what seemed like went back to normal.. After we left JDRF we get in the van and my A/C is now doing nothing but blowing HOT air.. VERY HOT air.. ITS 110 degrees outside I am on the other side of town... 30 min's from home and in Traffic..ok kids are turing bright red gulping every last bit of water and diet coke we have left salvagable. WE are dripping sweat.. I had to drive with the windows down for any type of relief,, ( keep in mind its 110 outside and that was relieft ) WE couldnt even make it home all the way and had to stop at a walmart just to get cooled off to finish the rest of the 10 minute drive home... NOW at this point kids seem fine.. mom on the other hand is dehydrated... filled all up with TONS of water... ok so i finally get better..

Right now its 1:15 am here... Charlize just woke up, peed the bed.... so thursty and drinks tons water, we do a FINGER POKE....549.. WHAT.. redo finger poke 538... UGH.. only explination... HEat distroyed her insulin in the pump or just a reaction to the heat.. SO now im up, changed out site, waitin gto waker her back up to pee again for me to check ketones... IN 2 years of living in this swealtering heat pit, THE HEAT FINALLY GOT to us... UGH... I HATE THE HEAT.. GUESS WHat tomarrow suppose to be 114...OK SO now im just whining.

OH and by the way.. the dealership cant get my van in till friday to get fixed adn see why my AC busted... !@#$%.

OMG, Chandra, what a day!! 114:eek: today! I think we would be staying home and playing board games or something.
What is a Hope Bag? I have to find out if our local chapter does something like that for newly diagnosed.

Wow, what a really awful afternoon you must have had. Buga that it ruined her insulin, and that you have to be up. Hope she doesn't have ketones... fingers crossed for ya's.

Ugh, so sorry to hear :(. We only know about heat AND humidity...not dry heat like you describe and certainly not in the 100s!!! Yeah, I often worry that the Florida heat has an effect on Mia's insulin, so I make sure to change the cartride and site every 2 days.... I wish they would make a pouch pack which is insulated...maybe I need to come up with something ...

Hope things went back to normal after that!!!

Yikes!! That is HOT! It has been over 100 degrees a lot here too, but not 114! That will definitely kill your insulin.

nantomsuethom- If you have a local JDRF call them and they will bring you a bag. If you don't have a local office, (we don't), just go to their website and register. They will send it to you in the mail!

hold- I just saw recently that Frio makes an insulated pump pouch. You can order it on www.pumpwearinc.com (http://www.pumpwearinc.com).

Chandra,
I'm so sorry! Geez, there is not much worse than being stuck in Phoenix traffic with no a/c in the summer! I was just telling my husband that I think mine needs recharged, but at least it WORKS!

I am waiting for mine to go out; it only blows when the knob is turned to 4 or 5. Something is wrong and 1, 2, and 3 don't work...which is OK when it's so stinking hot - I'd have it on full blast anyhow. :)

One of the other Phoenix moms posted on the email list that they use a Frio pouch for the pump, and try to keep as much of the tubing tucked inside it as possible to keep the insulin cool. Then they do something to get the overheated insulin out of the tubing that isn't in the Frio if the child has been out in the heat too long; prime it? Sorry, don't remember exactly what she called it since we don't use the pump....I carry Meghan's insulin in a Frio whenever we go out, because you just never know what's gonna happen on I-17 or I-10! That's one of my worst Phx driving nightmares; breaking down on the side of the freeway in rush hour when it's 115....3 summers ago Michael and I were in an accident right by our house and it was soooooooooooo hot waiting for the firemen and the police, then the tow truck and Brent to show up. They gave us icewater and cool towels, but it was just awful......

Phoenix weather is so wonderful during the winter! :D
