Hi, I'm Andrea and am new here. I've been a diabetic for 6 years and I now have a very obsessive and scary problem. When I was 12, I became anorexic on top of all my diabetic problems. Now, still stressing about both things, I have secretly been using my diabetes to lose weight. I give very low amounts of insulin and then drink very sugary drinks to get ketones. Once I have ketones, I wait until I'm really sick, throwing up, and can't walk, at that point I feel like I'm thin enough to handle the rest with my eating disorder. I hate doing this! It's hurting my family, I'm doing poorly in school and worst off, I'm hurting myself. I just need someone to give me advice and someone to talk to:( ...
Thanks,
Andrea<3

Andrea this is a very serious problem and you should tell your doctor or at least your parents about what you are doing. When I was younger I did not take care of my diabetes and ended up in DKA, and was in a coma. The doctor said that if I showed up to the hospital even 20 minutes later I would have been dead. That is when I realized that taking care of myself was a really serious thing, and even though it was easier for me not to take care of myself I knew that it was way too dangerous. Even though you have been able to bring yourself out of DKA each time you put yourself into it, you need to think about what would happen if you let it go too far and actually end up in a coma. There are much safer ways for you to loose weight if you need to, but putting yourself into DKA is not the way. If you want to talk any time I am here.

Hi Andrea, it is so extremely important to take care of yourself!! I'm no skinny mini but am by no means overweight. There are ways to lose weight that are very healthy. And you will feel so much better! I know that it's hard to lose weight just cause we're diabetics, it makes it harder, but try other options! Ajust your diet, exercise, it really does help! I am always here to talk, please feel free to pm me. Hope to talk to you soon!
