Well, I have the Paradigm 515 by Minimed, and I love it! You should check out CWD's section about pumps, they have a great comparison and links to all the sites.

One thing to remember is that although they all have slightly different features, they all work in basically the same way and are good products. All of the manufacturers will send you kits explaining and promoting their pumps if you request one (you can do it on their web sites). They'll also often send someone to meet with you and demo the product. Some things to consider:

- how much insulin do you take in a day? If you're taking more than 50, you might want to look for a pump with a bigger cartridge so you won't be running out before it's time to change your set (usually every 3 days). If you are quite insulin sensitive, you might want a pump like Animas that can give very small increments of insulin.
- do you travel a lot? Some companies will give you an extra loaner pump while you're away from home.
- do you want a built-in meter, or do you like your own meter and want to stick with it?
- which one do you like the look of? Everything else being equal, it's not a silly consideration -- you're going to be wearing this thing 24/7.

Good luck with your choice -- and congrats on getting a pump. Hope it works out really well for you!

Look at these:

This MiniMed 722/RT (the NEW one) can be upgraded with a Continuous Glucose Monitor. (The "RT" is the upgrade, the plain pump is the "722".) Everyone I "talk with" (on the Internet), who has one with the CGMS feature, is TOTALLY THRILLED. And the fact that you're buying a pump, not "just a CGMS", means that insurance probably WILL cover most of the cost.

The Animas is totally waterproof, not merely water-resistant. That's VERY nice for hyper-active water babies, you don't have to leave it behind on the beach and wonder whether some A-hole is gonna steal it (thinking it's a cell phone, or an IPOD, or just "something cool and expensive looking which I can steal").

BTW, I own neither. I'm still living with a D-Tron+, long since banned for Sale by the FDA, and with a Dexcom "STS" CGMS instead of Minimed. The Dexcom, like the Minimed 722 WITH R/T for others, has me TOTALLY THRILLED, it's absolutely changed my life.

If you choose a pump other than the 722 from Minimed (an Animas, Deltec, Cozmo, or whatever), then you can always add CGM by purchasing a separate Dexcom "STS" or Abbott "Navigator" (not yet available) later.

Rather than ask within "Teens", you'll find LOTS of talk about Minimed versus Animas (versus Cozmo, versus Deltec) down in the "Products --> Insulin Pumps" category.

Happy browsing!

And be sure to take a good, long look at each one... don't just depend on other peoples' preferences.

Insurance may cover the cost of getting the 722, but it will not cover the cost of wearing it (sets, transmitters, sensors..). I realize that most of these things can be used longer than their 'limit', but it is still expensive. It is amazing though, as soon as the insurance comes though, I WILL be getting one.

Hi, First off figure out what your insurance will cover supplies etc. Put in a call. Second do all of the research suggested. Third have all of the reps out, they will show you everything. Ask them about their service, warranties, cost for upgrades, why a particular feature is so important. Fourth figure out which one best suits your needs. Then go. Tami

I am currently using Minimed 508 and I love it :) well, it is kind of old, so if I could I would change it for one of the Paradigm pumps, especially 722 :)
