My daughter is three and will be starting on the pump soon. We are going to be using the Inset infusion set and I was wondering if anyone else uses the inset and how they like it or if they have had any problems with it?

I use it for myself and love it, it's quick and easy. So far, I've never had a problem with the Insets, I had a few problems with the Comfort sets coming out and being a little bit uncomfortable, so I switched. I've seen alot of recommendations for it by parents, usually due to the fact the child doesn't see the needle go in, and it's done before you or they know it. You can also get it in different colors, the cartridge and the plug in, which can be important to keep a kid entertained while doing it and keep them from viewing it as bad, especially if they are involved in which color they get to use.

We use the Inset, and for 99% of the time it works great. We have had issues with the set falling off in waterplay (fixed by using SkinTac, ask pump co. about it) and an occasional kink in the canula, which required immediate change. I like that the set is easy to hold and apply, and that my child does not see the needle going in. Our d-nurse/endo both recommend this one because she has hardly any body fat and this is the most pain free.

We use the quick-set which is from minimed, but it's the same concept as the inset.
I love that it puts the needle in at the same depth every time, even if she wiggles while I'm sticking her. It's very shallow at 6mm and it would be very difficult to angle a needle at that depth consistently. It's also a huge perk that they don't have to see the needle. I can actually do it with one hand while I'm holding her.
We have never had a kinked canula, but our sites do come off easily after a day of swimming, so skin tac is a great idea if you're in the water a lot.

Thomas uses the Inset. We did have a problem with the set pulling off when he pulled the needle out. We now use a paper clip or some other straight object to keep it in place while pulls the needle out. We hold the the "straight thing" in the little triangle of the inset as he pulls out the needle. He hasn't had another pull out since. He probably doesn't need to do this anymore (maybe had a bad batch) but he insists, he will not put in a new infusion set without it.
Other wise, with all the other infusion sets he has tried he likes this one best.

Another happy Inset user. We have two kids using them. We are very happy with them

It may sound moronic but i like that they come in different colors. The only D supply item we get that it is easy to tell who's is who's.

We label meters and lancing devices so we can tell, nice to have the option form the factory.

Thanks for replying back.

I am wearing Paige's pump today with saline so I can know some of what she will be feeling. I used the inset and found it very easy and virtually painless. I am hoping she will think so too.

Did anyone have any very high or low numbers when starting on the pump?

I just switched from using the sof-sets for the past 7 yrs to the insets in the last month or so. I guess I am a little moronic too...ha ha...but I like the different colors also. They sent me a starter box of pink ones and then on Monday I got a shipment in of more pink, green and blue...WOOHOO! I like them. I got tired of all the tape on my sof sets and I have not had a problem yet with the insets.

We also use the Inset and love it! It's almost painless and really goof proof. I also like that it does mininmal damage to the skin, my son doesn't have those nasty red lumps like he used to get from the other infusion sets.
I don't like how easy it comes off after being in the water though. Seem like the adhesive isn't as strong as our old sets. I'll have to look into the SkinTac.

Thomas had quite a few lows when he started pumping. We faxed his bgs to his endos office daily and called the office for his lows. It took almost 2 weeks of adjusting basals before we had it just right.
He had 9 different basal rates, one of them was 0 for 2 hours in the morning. I think he is now down to 7 now.

Good luck! You will enjoy the freedom when everything is figured out.
