I'm just curious about how bottles of insulin you use for those who are on the pump. We haven't been on the pump long and are trying to determine how many bottles wer are going to use each month?
Thanks!

That would vary a whole lot between different people. Some teens take up to 100 units a day. Other toddlers take 6 units a day.

How much does your daughter get now? Perhaps other parents whose child takes the same amount could tell you.

My son uses 50-75 units a day and goes through 3 bottles a month.

My Daughter, 11 and uses about 60 -70 units a day right now, but Im faxing over her logs in the morning, I think a change is needed. her #'s have been staying in the high 200/300 for the past 5 days:mad:
I really havent figured out how many bottles we use in a month, we always have at least 3 bottles in the fridge, as soo n as we get down to 1 we re stock. YDMV:cwds:

Emily's TDD is about 28 per day. We usually go through 1.5 bottles a month by the time I use insulin to prime, get air out and I always put in extra, just in case.

Sometimes we use just over 1 bottle and sometimes just under 1 bottle. We get 2 per month. We have some as back up, 1 at school, ect.... So it all works out.

We use just under 1 vial a month - TDD is about 11 units a day and we change sites every 3 days, so I typically fill the reservoir with about 80u every 3 days. This gives us plenty of extra for priming if needed or any weirdness.

I honestly haven't kept track since on the pump. All I know is that I used to throw away a TON of Humalog AND Lantus on shots and I don't feel that way now. I know that I'm throwing away 10 units every time I throw out the tubing and I often change the cartridge with 10-15 units left but for the most part, I am throwing away empty cartridges. We have switched to using the pen cartridges for filling the pump instead of a vial - they are smaller and less to "waste" if we don't finish it in the month.

One of the biggest difference is the 3.5 units of Humalog through the pump that was Lantus before - so our TDD is ALL Humalog - that uses it a lot faster.

If her average TDD is 12 units a day, in 30 days, she would have taken 360 units, which is more than a cartridge, not couting priming and discard, so probably 1 1/2 cartridges.
