Do you have to change a ton of things AFTER the illness? Ratio's? Basal's? ISF? Is anything the same after? Does it go back eventually to where you were?
Seems we have to change everything AFTER illness and it never goes back to what it was. Insulin need increases after, seemingly that each illness is kills more beta cells

My CDE said most settings change after illness - the one we haven't changed is the ISF - but the I:C and most of the basals changed

Jessi has only had an illness, other then a cold, twice that I can remember. Both times we had to change basically everything during the illness but we never changed it back after she was better.

When we were in the honeymoon pretty strongly (not sure if we are still honeymooning or not) things never just went back to pre illness. It'd change from illness settings, but was never the same as pre illness either. It was always strange, and hard, but we got through it. You will too. Hang in there, Kelly.

Were on shots, I used to move everythin up for the highs, then back of slowly looking for patterns. For a long time now, I just put everything back at the first low (Meaning he's well) Then go from there...:cwds:

Hey Kelly,
I am hoping your Madison has not been sick - we just went thru this and now Avery has the same darned head cold that I have... never ends :o
we had to change Avery's basal (but we use Lantus remember) aalmost one whole unit and it took a good two weeks until she was back to her normal I:C ratio - I remember one point she was sop happy that she did not need to have some shots becasue she kept going so low... poor babies -
Hang in there !

It's interesting that you bring this up.
We've been dealing with a lot of illlnesses lately and for the first time, we've been seeing a week or so of lows once the illness is cleared up.
My endo's thoughts on it (with the disclaimer that there is no medical research to back this up) are that even when the illness is over, the child's body may not absorb the carbs from the food in the same way as when healthy. It can take a while for settings to return to normal, because their bodies are not functioning normally, even though the signs of illness are gone.

Mary Lou, we have lows before the illness and then highs with illness, followed by a week or so of whacked out random make no sense numbers  My take is our honeymoon, more Beta cells dying after a new illness. Makes sense to me.

We have the same pattern here, including the "whacked out random make no sense numbers"! (Shall we add WORMNoSN to our acronym list?)
Within a week or two so post-illness I find I have adjusted down about half of whatever I changed during the illness. This seems true for growth spurts too.

Since Ainsley's hospital stay the other week, we are now adjusting everything as well. Maybe it is coincidental, maybe it is a growth spurt, maybe she is getting closer to being done with the honeymoon -- who knows!

Brandon was high for about 2 weeks, and we finally had maybe 3 days of good numbers. Then wham! he had the stomach bug. Now we are changing all of his basals & boluses back to what they were. I was wondering, too, if it was because of him being sick.
